About me and my therapy practice

I offer a space for you to be heard, where you can feel safe and connected, where you can explore your experiences and issues, your situation, difficulties and sense of yourself, so that you may reduce your distress, grow in self-awareness and are empowered to move towards change or acceptance.

I hold a belief at the core of my work that being together in what you are experiencing, and receiving acceptance in the counselling relationship can make the changes you want seem possible.

I experience that the exploration of thoughts and feelings, with the trust and human connection of an empathic human being, you can find your own inner wisdom and new ways to cope with difficulties and find a way forward.

Practice description

I work with adults and am located in different locations in Hampshire.

I work with an integrative approach to counselling, bringing together professional knowledge and approaches to human needs in relationship, emotional and psychological processes.

Within a therapeutic relationship that recognises and values your uniqueness and individual experiences, we can work together to understand your needs, collaborate ways of working in sessions that feel helpful to the process, which can include creative expression and exploration, using images, photos, writing, story, collage, and natural materials, if you choose.

I have received specific Trauma Counselling training that brings to the counselling relationship, a focus around unresolved and unprocessed experiences of the past, that are held as trauma in the systems within the human body and may be experienced as disturbances, distress, panic, avoidance, disconnection, emotional fluctuations/instability, breakdown in relationships and high anxiety. Understanding what you may be experiencing through a trauma informed approach, can help to understand how experiences of the past may be impacting on your connection to people and experiences of the world around you.

Trauma counselling offers hope for connection and safety in relationships, so that life may feel more fulfilling and meaningful.

I am trained in Rewind technique

My first session

I offer an initial exploratory session - in this initial session together, we can begin to understand what brings you to counselling and to gather information that can help that process. This may include relevant personal history, any previous experiences of counselling or support for mental health, as this may help to inform your hopes and expectations now.

If after an initial session, we feel like we might be a good fit and you wish to proceed, we can agree a time for sessions and consider the terms of our agreement to work together. Some people want open-ended sessions and others short-term agreement. A minimum of six sessions is suggested as a guide to enable trust to establish. Trauma focused counselling will likely require longer - a minimum of 12 sessions. The time scheduled for sessions is held for as long as we agree and you choose to attend. This day and time will not be offered to anyone else, nor will any other counsellor stand in for me.

To support the professional relationship, some paperwork is required (privacy notice, working agreement, emergency contact for example) and is sometimes completed ahead of the initial session and can, if needed, be completed during the initial session.
