About me and my therapy practice
Hello. I'm a Counsellor and Psychotherapist based in Nottingham, with over 12 years experience supporting both adults and teenagers in the voluntary, public, and private sector. I have been fortunate to have gained extensive training in a variety of psychotherapeutic modalities over a 15 year period, allowing me to provide bespoke support to my clients that is right for them. I offer both face to face and virtual therapeutic sessions.
I am extremely passionate about how we relate to people around us, and I feel that our past and present relationships are often a significant factor in our mental health and wellbeing. This passion guided me to complete my postgraduate IAPT (NHS) training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). My core training is Person Centred Counselling.
Patient well-being is my number one priority and I ensure that they are at the heart of the decision making around their care and what type of support would be most suited to them. You may be feeling stuck, lost, unfulfilled, worried or unhappy & you may not know why. Whatever your issues or worries may be, past or present, we can work together to begin to take positive steps towards how you want your life to be different. Our relationship will be one built on trust and my non-judgemental genuine regard for your well-being.
Practice description
I provide personalised talking therapy for both adults and teenagers helping with low mood / depression and anxiety. I can offer a safe space that can support you with the challenges you are currently facing, at a pace that is right for you.
I specialise in relationship challenges, bereavement, and significant life events / changes that may be impacting on your wellbeing. It may be that you just need a place to talk and explore what you are going through or it may be that you would like to learn a few new skills to manage how you are feeling - this is something we can discuss together to make sure the support is right for you.
My counselling support is based on the teachings of Carl Rogers, one of the founding fathers of psychotherapy - based on compassion and non-judgemental understanding, to help people grow and develop in the direction they wish to . I also integrate CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) into my practice to help clients develop skills and strategies to manage their daily challenges.
My first session
I will offer a free 15 minute phone call to discuss around the challenges you would like support with, get a sense of whether I am a good fit for what you need, answer any questions you have, and agree a first session.
At your first session we will complete a mini assessment which will be me asking about your mental health and overall wellbeing and us both coming to a joint decision around how we will work together to get the most out of future sessions. We may set some goals together if this feels helpful. As part of the first session we will also complete a therapeutic contract between us which will include things such as confidentiality and my commitment to you.
At the end of the first session we will discuss whether you would like to continue for further sessions or you may wish to have some time to think it over. There will not be any pressure and I want to ensure that you feel comfortable and ready to continue the support.
