About me and my therapy practice
I have a master’s degree in Clinical Counselling from the University of Chester. I am also an NHS Counsellor working in a Psychological Therapies service. I previously worked with Manchester Cruse Bereavement as a support volunteer and co-trainer on their foundation course.
My background is in the Performing Arts, I lectured in Contemporary Dance and then as a High School Dance Teacher for several years. It is working through my own adverse childhood experiences and supporting students and pupils outside of my lecturing and teaching roles that led to my current career. I continue to enjoy working with creatives and performers in my Counselling practice.
First and foremost, I work with people, and I strive to hold an inclusive anti-discriminatory practise that is open to all.
Some of my clients came to me because they felt stuck in situations that they felt were beyond their control such as ill-health, debt, shunned by a family or religion, the threat of incarceration etc., and felt they were struggling to cope.
Some people came to me because they felt overwhelmed and stuck in anxiety, depression, grief, and loneliness, and they cannot seem to find a way out.
Some clients had experienced adverse childhood experiences and found their way of coping through difficult times in the past, was stopping them from having and enjoying the life they really wanted.
I have helped people work through; The aftermath of a coercive controlling relationship, complex grief, PTSD flashbacks, Anxiety, Depression, trapped or contained emotions, disproportionate irritation and anger, relationships and fear of connection, sexless marriage, painful separation, divorce, child sexual, physical, emotional abuse, historical child neglect and fear of abandonment. Domestic violence, toxic attachments, gambling addictions, disordered eating, body dysmorphia, gender dysphoria and more.
Practice description
My therapy is personal to you and the therapeutic relationship we create together in each session. I listen with the aim of understanding how your experiences impact your life without making assumptions or fitting you into a formula. I am an interactive therapist, I will be in there with you without getting in the way of your thoughts, processes, and insights. You will feel supported and held by me as your confident companion through the more painful aspects of the therapeutic process. I will be your ally as you face feelings you may have been avoiding or experiences you may have found difficult to explore and examine on your own.I am registered on the government's DBS update service, and I hold full indemnity insurance with Holistic Insurance Services.
