About me and my therapy practice

I am a person centred counsellor providing individual counselling in Hastings, East Sussex.

It is important to choose a counsellor with whom you feel comfortable, in order to help you make the positive changes you want in your life and improve your emotional well-being.

There are many different reasons for seeing a counsellor and I appreciate how big a step it is for anyone to decide to see one.

If you are feeling troubled or overwhelmed, counselling can offer you a confidential, welcoming, non judgemental space where you can be truly heard.

It may be easier to talk about personal, family, or relationship issues with a person who is not a friend or family member.

Work Stress

  • Are you experiencing stress at work?
  • Are deadlines, an overwhelming workload causing you feelings of anxiety, lacking in motivation, energy and enthusiasm?
  • Do you feel criticised by others, or feel you are not ‘good enough’?

Bereavement or Loss

  • Has a recent loss or bereavement made things seem more difficult to cope with than usual?
  • Are these feelings stopping you from doing your usual things?
  • Are you experiencing difficulty getting to, or staying asleep?
  • Are you putting on a brave face to the world, masking your true feelings?

Personal Development

  • Are you feeling stuck?
  • Are there some changes you want to make in your life?

Working Creatively and Therapeutically with Art

I also offer image work in our sessions if that is something of individual interest.

What I love most is offering the space for people to be fully themselves to discover insights when re-connecting with their creative self. It is a privilege to be witness and facilitator for this growth and transformation.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing - EMDR

EMDR focuses on treatment of emotional difficulties caused by disturbing life experiences, which impact on present day functioning.

EMDR Sessions usually last for 1 ½ hours, each processing session will be repeated until the memory causes less distress.

Practice description

I understand that it is not always easy to talk about problems and to express how you are feeling, however we will work together towards improving your emotional well-being around whatever has prompted you to seek help.

There are a number of therapy approaches that counsellors are trained in, so it is important to consider carefully your expectations of counselling and of your counsellor.

I follow Carl Rogers’ Person Centred Approach to counselling. You are the expert in your life, therefore following this approach my aim is to offer a confidential and non-judgmental space which is just for you to talk about those things that bother you, or are having an impact on your life and mood.

I have special interest and experience in supporting people in bereavement and loss.

I also offer a few ways of working creatively in our sessions, if that is something of individual interest.

There are no expectations of being an artist, image work, or mark making, can be a non-verbal approach to understanding the self, our thoughts and feelings.

My first session

Your first session enables us to meet and discuss what has prompted you to seek help.

It is also an important opportunity to get a sense of how we will work together.

If we are both happy to work together, we will meet weekly at the same time for 50 minutes for as long as you feel you need.

If you prefer, we can set a specific number of sessions at the beginning and work towards a goal.
