About me and my therapy practice

Welcome. As a BACP registered Counsellor; my experience was gained working for a counselling service in London, with referrals made through the NHS Back on Track Service and GP practices and I now work in private practice. Previously, I worked in the broadcasting industry and the aid sector, including 18 years overseas, so I come to counselling later in life with a wealth of life experience.

At times life can feel tough, uncertain and a struggle. Perhaps something unsettling has happened, such as a bereavement, redundancy, divorce or illness. There may be something in the past that has not been dealt with and is now interfering with daily life. Or we may want help to cope with issues such as anxiety, stress or depression. When things become overwhelming, it can bring up a variety of difficult feelings, that sometimes affect our relationships and how we feel about ourselves and the world around us - and it can be beneficial to work with a counsellor in a neutral, safe and non-judgemental space.

Practice description

I offer a relaxed and confidential environment to talk, be heard and understood, helping you to gain insight into your thoughts, feelings and behaviours that support you to make better sense of your world. This can help you to feel calmer and make healthier choices - and support you to form and maintain fulfilling relationships and be better equipped to cope and face life’s challenges. I work with people from all walks of life, including young people, students, adults, professionals, people living in the UK from overseas and people experiencing economic hardship. I have worked with both men and women. All are treated with equal respect, dignity and compassion.

The relationship between counsellor and client is fundamental to success. I am caring, empathic and calm with a sense of humour. I see my clients for who they are and work with them authentically and truthfully with the total belief that they have it in themselves to heal, transform and grow. And I believe it's a collaboration. I'm not a blank wall. We work together.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I draw mostly from the person-centred and psychodynamic approaches, tailoring my skills to address your concerns. I work with you for as long as you need, this might be short-term for a few weeks or long-term for months, with regular reviews to ensure we are focusing on your priorities.

My first session

I'm happy to have a free 20 minute phone or video introductory chat about your needs and answer any questions you may have; we can then arrange an initial session for us to decide together if we are a good fit for your particular needs.

If we decide to work together, I will send you my Counselling and Confidentiality Agreement before the first session; this contains information related to my working practice and fees and cancellation policy.
