About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Alec and it’s a pleasure to meet you.

I’m a registered BACP Counsellor working in Halesowen and Northfield in the West Midlands. I offer face-to-face Counselling sessions and work remotely via telephone and video calls.

Whilst I believe that the reasons that bring us to Counselling and Therapy are unique and deeply personal, they often share the common theme of acting as barriers that prevent us from living authentically and honestly with ourselves and others. This can often mean we remain in familiar places and situations that feel uncomfortable but predictable, rather than risking changing things in our lives and finding ourselves somewhere that may be unpredictable but possibly better.

I have been involved in mental health training and services for the past 5 years and have had the pleasure of supporting a wide and varied range of clients face-to-face before and remotely during the Pandemic, it would be a privilege to offer my support to you now as you explore the difficulties in your life.

Practice description

I am trained as an Integrative therapist, this means I do not subscribe to one specific method of therapy, instead, I use perspectives from several modalities to consider what is going on for you holistically rather than just focusing on one area.

However, the core of my practice is “Humanistic” and person-centred. This approach places priority on building a supportive and non-judgmental relationship that explores the impacts of our early relationships, the personal learning that has come from those relationships and the cognitive constructs we create as a result, ultimately shedding light on how we relate to ourselves and others.

I also strive to work with people from different backgrounds and cultural experiences, I welcome clients from all walks of life and whilst I am committed to educating and enriching myself I am also open to learning and being taught by your lived experience so that I can better understand and support you.

My first session

If my practice resonates with you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to tell me a bit about yourself, what you're going through and what you are hoping to gain from Counselling.

I will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible. Please note that my e-mail is not monitored outside of my working hours and this may slow down my reply.

I will normally invite you for a brief telephone conversation so that we can ask each other a few questions, we can get a feel for one another and then you can decide if you want to take the next step and have an initial assessment.

The assessment session would take place either face-to-face or remotely and allow me to understand what you are going through, for us to agree on a way to work together and a chance to see if you think working with me would be helpful for you.
