About me and my therapy practice
Holding over 18 years’ experience, I initially trained in person-centred therapy. I have since furthered my knowledge around culture and diversity - including lesbian, gay and bisexual issues (a gay affirmative approach); trans issues and HIV. I now use an integrative approach as experience has shown me that different people need different things at different times. Some clients find it helpful to explore their past - their childhood experiences, relationships with parents or other family members, often shedding light on current problems or difficult relationships. Others may focus on specific concerns, setting an agenda, seeking solutions and working towards goals. CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) can often be helpful in this. Learning to relax using breathing techniques or mindfulness; working with the 'inner child', as well as general self-care have also been useful to clients in the past. Many simply need a regular, trustworthy and private space to be heard without criticism. I offer a free half-hour meeting with no obligation, to meet me, see the premises and ask ANY questions. It’s crucial that you feel at ease. I have week day availability, daytime and early evenings. Parking is usually available outside the premises and frequent buses run 100m from the door.
