About me and my therapy practice
Hello there, I'm Sue, a BACP registered Humanistic counsellor who works with individual adults currently by telephone or online.
Many people face difficulties in life that leave them feeling they no longer enjoy the things they used to love. You might be feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed, feeling stuck in life and not being very kind to yourself, reeling from a loss, or affected by anxiety or depression and want support to explore your thoughts and feelings? Perhaps you feel it is time to gain some awareness as to why you act or react the way that you do? Are you looking for a new perspective that will allow for change? Our work together is to develop your ability to view yourself with curiosity and not judgement so that you can grow in self-acceptance.
I offer a respectful and reflective space where I will listen with focus and empathy as you share your story. Together we will work to discover the root causes of your concerns and through having this consistent support you can be given tools to get on top of difficulties.
Deciding you need to reach out for support is the first step in creating your own narrative but it can be challenging to find a counsellor that feels right for you. I offer a free 30-minute introductory chat to help you decide if I am the one to accompany you on your journey.
Practice description
I tailor my approach to bring the greatest benefit to you. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to counselling, as the best therapy for you will always be as unique as you are. My belief that therapy is a dialogue means that we will always work at a pace that you feel comfortable with.
Our therapy space is your time to meet regularly with a counsellor trained not only in listening with sensitivity and empathy; but also able to detect patterns of behaviour by being able to step back and look at the whole of the content you bring. Learning to view yourself with curiosity and not judgement, helps to increase self-compassion and improve the relationship you have with your own self.
I believe that my role as your counsellor is to build trust with you, by creating a respectful and reflective space allowing you to explore emotions that can hold you ‘hostage’ if left unexpressed.
We can work together to:
- Fully explore your life experiences, how that might have affected how you relate to the people in your life
- Discover how ways of being in the past might no longer be serving you; find new ways you can support yourself that are healthier ways to cope
- Look at the meaning in your life and what choices you can make to bring yourself to living closer in-line with you values
- What might be keeping you 'stuck', and together we can find new perspectives that will allow for change
Let's find the right questions for you that lead to answers connecting you to the strength already inside yourself.
My first session
Our first session is our opportunity for us both to see if we feel we can work well together. I will invite you to share what brought you to therapy and we can discuss what your therapeutic goals are. If you feel supported, listened to, and at-ease with me, we can discuss if you would like to meet again. The first session is 50 minutes and charged at the normal rate, however there is no obligation to continue our therapy work if you feel we are not the right fit.
