About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified, experienced counsellor/psychotherapist and an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I see clients in Peckham Rye, and online.
I trained at Greenwich University to master’s level (MSc) in Therapeutic Counselling; before this I studied psychology at degree level at the University of Newcastle (BS, hons). I have completed Internal Family Systems training for working with both individuals and couples.
I offer long and short-term therapy, supporting clients with anxiety, depression, family issues, identity struggles and difficulties with self-worth and self-esteem. As well as offering private work, I work for a large London teaching hospital, where I see clients, and coordinate a small specialist NHS counselling service.
I specialise in Sex and Relationships therapy, in which I support clients with relationship issues, anxieties around sex, issues with drugs, alcohol, compulsive sexual behaviour and pornography use, matters relating to sexuality and adjustment to health diagnoses. I am accredited as an Advanced Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversities Therapist by Pink Therapy.
How therapy can help you:
I can help you to work towards understanding and accepting yourself, whilst also exploring ways to implement healthy changes. Together we will increase our insight and awareness into the way you feel and act. This process will enable you to have more control over your thoughts and actions, as well as strengthening the way you relate to, and connect with, other people.
The way I work:
I work integratively, combining psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive behavioural techniques. I also offer Internal Family Systems therapy.
If we decide to work together, we will begin by establishing a strong therapeutic relationship. I will listen to you with empathy and respect. I offer a safe, confidential space, in which you can express your most challenging thoughts and feelings, without fear of being judged.
We will explore how your life experiences have shaped the beliefs, thoughts and assumptions that you have about yourself and the world. Our deepest held beliefs often sit outside our conscious awareness. As you become more aware of them you will have the opportunity to update, or let go of, those which are no longer serving you. This will allow you to change current thought-patterns and behaviours.
As well as working with you on issues that are affecting you in the present, I will teach you strategies to use in the future.
My first session
I offer assessment sessions at a reduced rate.
In your assessment session I will ask about your current life situation, your background, and what has brought you to therapy. We will work out together exactly what it is you want to get from therapy, and whether you want to work in an open-ended way, or for a specific amount of time. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you have about the different ways that I work. You can then take some time to consider if you would like us to continue to work together.
