About me and my therapy practice

I am a BACP accredited Counsellor and also a Therapeutic Coach. I have been working with clients for over 17 years with a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, depression, family dynamics, anger issues, grief and loss, relationship issues, self-harm, addiction, transitional changes and with the effects of domestic, emotional, physical, verbal and sexual abuse. I have also worked widely with clients experiencing trauma and PTSD.

By searching for a counsellor or therapeutic coach, you have already taken that difficult first step in acknowledging you might require support. Anyone, at any time , can be affected by traumatic and/or changing transitional life events. Often, we do not seek help until difficulties, worries and concerns become overwhelming.

Feelings, thoughts and trauma that we carry in our bodies, can often be resolved and managed reasonably quickly, once we have the tools to understand and cope with them. Life is a journey and all of us through that journey inevitably sometimes meet bumps and hills. People often find it difficult to talk about their thoughts, feelings and experiences they may have had, and how this may be impacting on themselves and their families and relationships. I feel passionately about working together with clients to empower your individual self, in the best way, to move forward in life, supporting you to find resolution to whatever issues are troubling you.

Being able to talk to a counsellor/coach whom you feel comfortable with, in a confidential, non-judgemental and accepting environment can be the start of life feeling more content. It can enable you to increase awareness of yourself and others, to make sense of thoughts, feelings and behaviours and find new ways of being and coping. Talking through issues and concerns can help alleviate anxiety, stress, worry, confusion and sadness.

Practice description

I work from my private practice close to Junction 22 on the M5 in a beautiful, tranquil setting on the Somerset Levels in a converted space dedicated for therapy.  I am easily accessible from Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar, Bridgwater, Taunton, Weston super Mare, Clevedon and Bristol. I have undertaken a thorough risk assessment with regard to COVID 19.

Counselling - I trained as an integrative therapist, so I work flexibly, using specific techniques, theory and key concepts drawn from various approaches. I believe all individuals are unique, so I tailor therapy to each clients individual needs. I often integrate CBT (Cognitive, behavioural therapy), EFT ( Emotional freedom technique), Mindfulness and other modalities into my practice if I feel this will benefit my client, but only with their permission. Counselling is a supportive process which helps you to explore, unravel and make sense of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours about difficult situations or experiences. I aim to help you understand yourself and issues more clearly and to encourage you in finding the most appropriate way forward for you.My aim by the end of therapy is that clients develop more healthy and positive ways of coping and being, hopefully, therefore leading to a happier and healthier future.

Therapeutic Coaching - I am also a therapeutic coach and if this should be your preferred way of working, I offer brief, short term work of 5 to 6 sessions.   I can provide the tools and strategies to enable you to move forward, teaching you new ways of 'being' and coping with life that you can use from hereon. Coaching is a more directive form of support in comparison to counselling however the work is very collaborative and empowering - it is about taking back control of your life.

My first session

I offer a FREE introductory 15/20 minute telephone appointment, so please get in touch via e mail or telephone to find out more about how I work, for you to ask any questions you may have and to discuss your needs. This will hopefully help to assist you in deciding whether I am the right therapist for you. I believe that finding the right therapist is key to a successful outcome within therapy. Clients need to feel safe, secure, understood and that they are working with someone they can trust.

At our first session we will explore together the issues that have brought you to therapy and discuss the way forward and how we will work together.
