About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP registered counsellor offering a safe and confidential space for you to talk about whatever challenges you are facing right now . When you are dealing with a distressing situation, or experiencing painful thoughts and feelings, you can feel stuck, isolated and alone.
I work by starting with two basic questions, what has happened to you and what matters to you? I adhere to the biopsychosocial model of mental distress. I believe mental distress is often caused by a loss in connection - from ourselves, from others, and from the things that matter to us.
I will work to establish a trusting relationship with you in which we can make sense of your experiences, thoughts and feelings. We will explore and understand your relationships with yourself and others. My aim is for you to feel heard, accepted and understood. Through this, you can gain new perspectives, shift how you think and feel, and find the courage to make changes and find new connections.
Clients say I am kind, perceptive, and considerate. I will not judge you or tell you what to do. I will work to support you to make sense of what is happening, and find your own way through. I believe greater self-awareness brings change
I have a PGDip in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the University of Brighton. I also work in the voluntary sector as a counsellor for As You Are, a low-cost counselling charity.
As well as being a counsellor, I am a social science researcher and teacher at the University of Sussex. I bring my knowledge of how society effects us into my therapy.
Finding a counsellor that is right for you is important, so I offer an initial consultation that costs £10 (to cover the cost of the room), so that we can get to know each other and decide if I am the right counsellor for you. I offer concessionary rates for students and people on low-incomes.
