About me and my therapy practice
My name is Caroline, and I am a humanistic and integrative counsellor. I work with individual adults and couples, and I run therapeutic writing groups and offer counselling by email. There is much more information on my website: https://carolinehukins.com
I offer a supportive, non-judgemental space for you to explore difficult thoughts, feelings, behaviours, circumstances, or relationship challenges.
Together we will explore what is happening for you; identify the issues, patterns or relationships that might be causing you distress; look at the influence of past experience on what is happening now; consider any changes that you may want to make and what gets in the way. I see it as a joint exploration, rather than me telling you what to do.
My training includes person-centred, psychodynamic and relational approaches to therapy. I have worked a lot with grief, illness, bereavement, loss, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.
Practice description
I offer counselling for individual adults and couples. I can see clients in person in my garden office in Ashton Keynes (near Cirencester or Swindon).
I also offer counselling online, meaning that I can see you wherever you live, without incurring the time or expense of travelling. Another option is email counselling, if you are in a situation that makes it difficult to attend at a fixed appointment time.
I charge £50 for individuals, for a 50 minute counselling session.
I charge £80 for couples, for an hour-long session.
For both, I charge half my fee for the first session, as this is a chance to decide if I am the right 'fit' for you. We would then fix a regular weekly appointment.
I have a Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling; a Certificate in Relationship Counselling; and a Practitioner Certificate in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes. I am an Accredited Member of BACP, and fully insured and I have supervision in place for all my work.
Until recently, I worked for We Hear You (https://www.wehearyou.org.uk/), providing counselling to people affected by cancer or bereaved through illness; and also at Cotswold Counselling, a low-cost therapy service.
My first session
I know it can be daunting to take that first step to meet with a counsellor. The most important thing is to find someone you feel you can speak to openly and honestly. I recognise you may meet with more than one counsellor in trying to find the right one for you at this time.
I therefore charge for the first session at half my usual rate, as it is exploratory for both of us. But having a full session is very helpful for us both to better understand what you are struggling with, to experience working together, and to decide if this therapeutic relationship can be helpful for you.
