About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified Counsellor who will work alongside you in a confidential, safe space as you explore meaning and positive change for your life.

You have come this far in your ‘find out’ journey so it is likely that you have some idea of what counselling is about and whether it is for you.

Though working to professional BACP recognised standards, I would like to take the opportunity to give my perspective on Counselling and the Therapeutic process.

Counselling is rarely a means of giving and receiving advice. It is, however a means of respecting autonomy and empowering people to make informed choices about their life. In a therapeutic environment, you should be able to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions in a safe space where you will not be judged by another. You will be able to work through these at a pace and order freely determined by you according to your priorities and not to my agenda.  In this process you will gain greater understanding of you as an individual and of you in the context of the people in your life. Through awareness of your own unique life experiences, you can consider your own knowledge, skill set and available resources in making decisions for positive change. In summary – This is your time.

I work with empathetic understanding in a way that values you as a unique individual. A way that will not judge and way that maximises your strength and autonomy.

Through a variety of life experiences and professional expertise in working with people of all ages and backgrounds, I can offer a fully inclusive and safe space for you to explore a past, a present and a future as you determine what is important to you.

In following your own process with a professional, you will be better placed to understand yourself, your relationships and your life experiences.

In greater understanding and awareness you can recognise areas which continue to limit you and make different choices which are more likely to lead to fulfillment in moving forward.

Practice description

My approach - Your choice, your autonomy and your life.

Making that informed choice - Is therapy right for me? and If yes - Is Aaron going to be the person I work with?

I work as in a Person Centred way which put simply means exactly that – You, as my client would be at the heart of the work we do together. The priority is to gain understanding of your life as it is & to work together in identifying routes for positive change.

Though I work in an integrative way taking elements from a variety of therapeutic models, I am likely to use Transactional Analysis & Gestalt as main influences in our sessions together.

My approach is in recognising and appreciating you as a unique individual with your own unique experiences, thoughts and emotions. I work in a way that maximises your freedom to explore all that is you in as space free from judgment, a space of authenticity & perhaps most importantly a space of positive regard without conditions.

This will be your time to reflect and understand you and  how you interact in your personal and professional life. Dedicated time for you to utilise the guidance I can offer in oRder that you can bring understanding to and interpret the past and to consider its impact on the present and your future.

Using the expertise and influences of many of the established thinkers in Therapy such as Berne, Perls, Freud & Rogers - I will work in way that utilises appropriate therapeutic tools in a 'best fit' for your needs.

In working with you, I adhere to the BACP ethical code & professional guidelines which adds an additional level of safeguarding beyond my qualification & experience. This means that though I am committed to providing the best service, there is also  a regulatory body to which I am accountable.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call for a no obligation informal chat.

My first session

Before our first meeting, I will normally contact you to for a short  phone or video link discussion to explain what help and support I can offer and for you to be able to make a decision on whether I am the person you can work with.

If you do wish to have Counselling and/or Life Coaching with me, I would ask you to complete an assessment form which will in the first instance, help you to reflect and understand your needs and secondly for me to better understand you and to determine the best way in which we can work together.  This can either be worked through on your own or if you wish, you can use our first short introductory session to this.

The first introductory session is offered to you free of charge and without obligation.  It is 30 mins long and will enable you to consider what you you would like to achieve for our time together.

In a busy and evermore complicated world, mt work is based on giving you maximum flexibility and autonomy.  I therefor offer the option to attend my office at Discovery Park or online.

Face to Face Meeting

Discovery Park provides a friendly staffed reception area where you will be directed to my session room.  In order that your privacy is respected, you do not need to provide your name,  you will merely need to say that you have a meeting with Aaron K WIlson.

I will then meet with you and take you to the session space where we will discuss the work and agree how we can work together.  This will include a safe working environment, confidentiality and a discussion on my approach to working with you.  You will then be able to schedule in appointments with me for the sessions.

Online Meeting

Some people for their own reasons, often time related prefer to have Counselling on-line.  I work in very much the same way as Face-to Face meetings but in order to protect your interests, I ask that the place in your home or office is as private and confidential as is possible.
