About me and my therapy practice

I work in the humanistic tradition and take a person-centred approach to all my clients. I trained in the Transactional Analysis (TA) modality because I was drawn most to its idea of mutual 'OKness', that as humans we are all fundamentally valuable and deserving of respect, no matter what. I also find TA echoes my belief in counselling and psychotherapy as a two-way process, operating through an equal relationship between client and therapist. In addition, the accessible ideas of TA provide us all with a number of clear models that help us to move towards healthier ways of communicating and being. I work in partnership with my clients, without judgement, aiming to support them in better understanding themselves and their relationships and discovering more options for new ways of wellbeing.

Before moving into private practice I had over 5 years experience of working in the hospice and care sector, initially as part of a team of staff counsellors and then as Head of Wellbeing & Outreach, leading a wider team of counsellors and other practitioners in supporting people facing wellbeing difficulties of all kinds. I have a special interest in working with people challenged by depression, anxiety, grief and bereavement and issues of living with life-limiting illness.

As a core part of my professional development I access regular clinical supervision and attend annually planned training courses in areas that allow me to continue to develop as a therapist.

I’m a member of the United Kingdom Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA) and hold the UKATA Diploma award, which is recognised by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I’m also a registered member of BACP and my practice is governed by both UKATA and BACP ethical codes.

Practice description

Would it help you right now to be able to talk about problems in your life or relationships? If so I can provide you with a safe and confidential space where you can share what is troubling you, explore what is most important to you and decide what you want to do.

My practice is based in Lewes and Hove in East Sussex and I offer face to face sessions in a comfortable and safe counselling room and I also work by telephone and online.

Charges:

£70 for individual client sessions at 50-minutes

£90 for couples sessions at 50-minutes

My first session

In my experience, taking the first step of talking to someone can often feel like yet another challenge to be overcome. If you choose an initial session with me, I’ll be especially aware of this step you’ve taken. I’ll listen closely, supportively and without judgement to your concerns.

Once we have had the opportunity to meet, we can decide whether we want to continue our work together and can agree on further sessions. If I feel I am not best placed to support you I will be able to suggest other sources of support.
