Hi, my name is Ann and I am a person-centred counsellor.
Sometimes, life can feel really difficult - you find it hard to make decisions, or you feel down and don't know why, you worry about everyday stuff or you may feel overwhelmed and like you can;t cope. Sometimes, you really don't know what is going on for you - you just know you don't feel right.
Or you may know exactly what the issue is ... maybe you have had a relationship breakdown or lost a loved one, maybe you are struggling at work and feel you cant cope.
Person-centred therapy can help you get to the root of the issue - if you imagine you have an infected cut on your arm - you can stick a plaster on it, - and it will help- but that infection is still there. What you really need to do is clean that infection out - it will hurt a bit, and you might have to build your courage up to do it, but once it's clean and healed - it is less likely to bother you again.
I will help you to get to the root of the problem, using gentle, empathic guidance and helpful interventions. Together we will untangle all those thoughts and feelings . We will go at your pace - you are the expert on your life and experiences.
I have several years experience working in a charitable organisation and have counselled carers, those with financial difficulties, those in controlling relationships, and those who have experienced childhood neglect/abandonment or abuse.
My first session
Our first session will be a 'getting to know you'session where we will decide if we are suitable to work together. It is absolutely imperative that you find a therapist you are comfortable with - so if you come along to one session and feel like we don't gel - I completely understand! This is too important for you to not feel comfortable!
Hopefully, we will find we are more than happy to continue to work together. I will explain confidentiality, how we will work together and we will look at where you are now and what you would like to achieve from your sessions.
