About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Laura. I am a qualified Psychotherapist and Counsellor. I currently practise privately in Shoreditch and Islington, offering face-to-face and online sessions for adults.

Trained as an integrative psychotherapist in both classical and contemporary theory and technique – I tailor and revise my approach based on the individual’s current and evolving needs. My model aims to respond to the individual, with particular attention to their affect (emotions), behaviour, cognition, and physiological levels of functioning, including their spiritual beliefs.

Some people embark upon psychotherapy in order to seek help with a particular challenge or symptom, whereas others wish to explore their lives more extensively. Psychotherapy can last a very short time or for a longer duration, depending upon one’s wishes and motivations towards developing and maintaining a more resilient and self-fulfilling life.

Psychotherapy can also help you to:

  • identify and access the inner and external resources available to you
  • recognise the choices you have and to implement change
  • enhance your problem-solving skills

Practice description

My approach is relational, exploratory and collaborative in working together with the individual towards understanding their current difficulties and patterns. I work with clients who may have a sense of being stuck within holding patterns or contexts that are no longer purposeful, or who struggle with issues relating to identity, behaviours, emotions and thoughts. Clients may also feel estranged from themselves without knowing why, or who have trauma and relational concerns. I offer:

● a skilled understanding from several listening perspectives

● a non-judgemental and confidential environment

● tools and techniques to support the management of symptoms and for facing challenges

My expertise and depth of understanding – is located within (but not limited to) the following:

● identity issues

● trauma-related concerns

● relational difficulties

● sexuality

● neurodiversity

● gender

● influences on behaviour, thought and emotions

● generational transmission of relational patterns

Training, qualifications and experience

I also have fifteen years of experience in roles within the creative industries and cultural sector.

I believe that all my past experiences have helped me become more attuned to various challenges and difficulties in life and in the understanding of clients from a variety of backgrounds.

My first session

The first step is for a online consultation to be mutually arranged. The consultation takes place prior to an offer of subsequent therapy sessions. The time is used to assess and understand what has led the individual to seek therapy.

The consultation is also designed for the individual to:

  • get a sense of what therapy involves and how it may help them
  • ask any questions they may have before making the commitment
  • discuss the practicalities, confidentiality and the general framework of therapy
  • make an assessment of the therapist to decide if they can work with them
  • discuss costs and affordability of subsequent sessions

Subsequent sessions occur once or twice a week for fifty minutes, online or face-face with clients engaging in therapy for as long as they feel it will be useful.
