  • Flexible hours available

I'm fully booked for couples work at the moment.

I have one space available for working with an individual - that space is 12:30 on a Tuesday.

I work  both online and also in person (in St Albans, Hertfordshire).    My sessions run daytime and some early evenings (until 7pm).

About me and my therapy practice

Are you needing some help with your relationship?

Hello! My name is Ruth Cohen-Rose and 90% of my work is with  couples.

I also support individuals who are wanting to understand their patterns in a relationship or to support themselves after a breakup or in a new relationship.

Most couples who come to me have been stuck in their relationship for a pretty long time, with things feeling ‘Wrong’.

‘Wrong’, can be a lack of connection, getting stuck in cycles of arguing, stress, or feeling hurt, or after things like affairs. It’s really normal to not be able to see a way out of the fog, and to find that all the things you’ve tried to make things better just aren’t working. It can be so rough when the person you were closest to somehow feels like a stranger, or even worse, an enemy.

The way back to each other won’t come from just working on listening better! You’ve got stuck where you are for a reason, and getting why you’ve pulled apart from each other is going to be part of what brings you closer together. This is a journey into getting to know yourself better, how you show up in relationships, what you’re longing for, as well as rebuilding the bridge back to each other, back to love.

With my help, we’ll look at the stuck places you two get into, and what’s keeping you there. Often something new needs to happen to bring you both closer to each other and reconnect with the love you felt for each other at the start.

But my partner isn’t into this stuff…

My job is to create an environment where you BOTH feel supported.

Very often one person in a couple is less comfortable with the idea of doing couples counselling, or talking about ‘stuff’. So many of us have grown up in environments where talking openly just didn’t happen. It’s up to me to make having new conversations as supportive as I can for both of you. I never take sides, but help you both to get curious about what’s happening between you, so that something new can happen.

Practice description

I work either online, or in person in St Albans, Hertfordshire, about 20 minutes drive from North London.

Benefits of online: Many couples are surprised how connecting online sessions feel - very different from Zoom meetings for work etc.  The advantage is that there is no travel time, babysitting to arrange etc, and that you two are in your home environment. It also means that if either of you are away, therapy can continue.

How will I work with you?

I'm certified as an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and also trained in IFIO (IFS couples therapy).  These are two evidence based models of couples therapy that are proven to be extremely effective.  I also use  NARM (Neuro Affective Relational Model) which is designed to support with any developmental trauma.

What do I need from you?

It takes a willingness on your part to want to explore together. An openness to try something new.  And on my part, I will make it as safe and supportive as I can for you to do that.

I became committed to couple's therapy after receiving it for my own marriage many years ago. It revitalised our relationship and brought us closer than we'd imagined we could be.  I wanted to offer that to others.  So I know firsthand that it's vulnerable to try something you haven't tried before, and I also know that it really can be the way back to each other.

My first session

As a first step, I offer a FREE phone/zoom chat of up to half an hour.

The call is a chance for you to ask me any questions you might have, and for you to share a little of what brings you to couples therapy. We look at practicalities eg seeing if I have a time available you can make.  Either one of you or both of you can be in the call.

And then if you want to begin

We’d do an initial 75 minute joint session so you both get a feel for whether you’d like to work together with me. It’s so important you both get a sense that you can trust and work with the person you choose to support you in your relationship - some people like to meet a few different couples therapists to find the person that’s right for them.

We start with how you both see your relationship - what you're hoping for, what's not working for you right now, or hasn't worked in the past.  And I make space to hear any concerns either of you have about couples therapy.

If the session feels right, we'd arrange a time to meet going forwards and talk about any practicalities.

Weekly couples therapy sessions - These are 75 minutes and cost £80
