About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to my page. I am an experienced and qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, and I run my practice from a private, comfortable and safe room in my home in Crowthorne, Berkshire.
As a humanistic therapist, I use different ways of working with you depending on your needs. My focus however is always on our therapeutic relationship, as I believe this is the most important factor to enable change to happen in a safe and trusting environment.
I have several years experience working as a counsellor for an agency for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. I work with compassion and empathy, holding my client's safety always in mind. My further training and experience with these clients has given me a deep and empathic understanding of the impact that this type of trauma can hold on an adult now. I can support you whether you experienced childhood abuse, or abuse as an adult.
I am passionate about my work, and as a registered member of the BACP, you can feel safe in knowing that I offer a confidential and professional service. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from The Metanoia Institute where I'm also currently in my final year of completing a Masters in Humanistic Psychotherapy.
I believe that counselling can give you the space to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions, and the clarity to make changes you may feel you need.
I have special interest in working with clients who have experienced trauma from my experience as a rape and sexual abuse counsellor. I understand the coping mechanisms that many people adopt after traumatic events, that may have helped protect you at the time. These can include alcohol abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, low self-esteem, poor sleeping patterns, intimacy issues, feelings of shame, flashbacks and dissociation.
I can give you the time and space to safely talk about, and come to terms with, any of your emotional issues. Once you realise the influence that these coping mechanisms may hold over you, you can work towards taking control of them, and as a result find the way to empower yourself.
I work with clients on a long or short term basis depending on your needs. I work with clients who are experiencing a wide range of issues:
I'm a registered member of the BACP and am qualified and insured to work with adults, both face-to-face and online.
My first session
I believe that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in my work, and so our initial meeting will give us a chance to see if we can comfortably work together.
I will explain how I like to work and will invite you to tell me a little of what brings you to therapy. Please don't worry about having to talk about anything you are not comfortable with. You can begin wherever you like, and feel confident that I will hold your safety in mind at all times to ensure you are not overwhelmed. You are welcome to ask me any questions or share any worries you may have about my work and counselling in general.
There is no obligation for you to continue to work with me after this initial session, or at any other point. It is more important for you to find the right therapist for you, and if you don’t quite click with me, that’s fine too and I may be able to steer you towards a different way of moving forward.
This first session will take place either face to face or by Zoom depending on any restrictions that may be in place and will be the same fee as other sessions. I hope by the end of the first session you will know whether you are comfortable to work with me, however I will always suggest you go home to think about it for a couple of days before making your final decision.
Free on street parking is available outside and there is also a toilet available next door to my counselling room.
