About me and my therapy practice

Walk & Talk Therapy.

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, registered with BACP. I am deeply passionate about helping and supporting people in making real positive changes in their lives.

As a therapist I work and engage with a wide range of people from all walks of life helping and supporting them. I work with adults and young people (ages 13 - 25), including university students. I offer both short (6-12sessions) and longer-term counselling and psychotherapy to individuals,

I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental, empathic and warm confidential environment to enable you to feel safe enough to talk freely and self-explore. With me, you can be your true self and express issues that you might not feel comfortable doing so anywhere else.

Having the opportunity to talk things through in a safe environment allows free exploration of thoughts and feelings. This also helps you to focus and gain a better understanding of yourself. By being in tune with how you are feeling and by understanding your experiences, I will support you so that you can gain some clarity, see a way forward and work towards a growing sense of inner peace and contentment, with more focus.

I can help uncover your strengths and assist you in learning new skills that will allow you to deal with your struggles and cope better with the challenges that arise in life.

My way of working is gentle but sufficiently challenging to help you grow and ensuring that I work at a pace that suits you.

If this is something that you feel you would like to try then please contact me to discuss how I can help.

Practice description

The focus of this profile is to introduce how I practice as a Walk & Talk therapist in WD3 area. Please visit my main profile if you are not seeking this approach to counselling.

Walk and Talk Therapy, also known as outdoor therapy. Its a form of counselling/psychotherapy where confidential sessions take place outside with you the client and myself walking and talking side by side during your therapy session, rather than being enclosed in a indoor space. The pace is set by you and I match your pace. If you wish to pause or sit you are free to do so.

Objective of Walk and Talk is for us to have a counselling session. Walking in a natural environment includes advantages to physical health and provides an additional therapeutic context making it easier for clients to relax, stop ruminating, release physical tension, while processing experiences in a different way. It has been shown to lower the levels of anxiety, stress and depression in addition to enhancing a sense of wellbeing.

I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework and pride myself on practicing to the highest ethical standards.

My first session

As way of an introduction I offer a free 15 minutes initial telephone consultation. I invite you to arrange this by getting in touch.

The initial conversation can help the process of deciding if there is likely to be a good match.  It also provides you an opportunity to ask me any questions you may have. We can explore what I can offer and the support you are looking for. If we do decide to proceed together, then we can confirm a regular day and time that works for us both.

I normally offer therapy in person / face to face both in South East London SE1 and Rickmansworth WD3 near Watford, Hertfordshire WD3.

However, counselling in person/face to face is temporarily on hold due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) in South East London SE1 but I'm offering telephone and online sessions.

Having had BACP approved training for online and telephone counselling, I'm skilled and experienced in providing live video-based sessions and telephone counselling sessions. In addition, I am supervised by a knowledgeable supervisor with experience in online therapy.

Fortunately, successful therapy can be delivered remotely and I have been working in this way for some time so you can be in the comfort and safety of your own home without the need to travel. Many people find online or remote counselling therapy useful and empowering as they can feel safe and more in control by being in their own physical space. It also allows much more flexibility in booking days and times to support your needs, especially if you are confined at home.

Practice description

My approach is not to offer advice or to diagnose you. I work with you to gain a better understanding of the ways suited to you, to create positive changes. Believing that you are the only expert in yourself, my aim is to support and empower you to make changes that you feel are suited to you.

While I use the person-centred approach as the basis of my counselling practice, I draw on a range of approaches such as Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and other approaches to suit your needs. I can work creatively using materials, ensuring that my approach is flexible and tailored to your individual needs. This is based on the idea that each person is an individual and unique so one type of therapy doesn't fit everyone.

In all cases, however, I seek to establish a safe, accepting and trusting environment, in which the client feels fully able to explore issues and find ways forward.

If this is something that you feel you would like to try then please contact me to discuss how I can help.
