About me and my therapy practice

My work is rooted in modern psychotherapy, the traditional Eastern philosophy of Zen, and mindfulness. I am authorised by the Kwan Um School of Zen. I hold the title of Zen Master and have been practising Zen for a few decades.

My experience helps me to help  clients how to be in touch with their intuitive and logical sides in a balancing way. I work with individual clients, couples, groups, and families.

The way I help my clients is by leading or assisting them to self-trust in dealing with overthinking and to develop intuitive responses to challenging events or while facing difficult choices and decisions.

I help to end self-sabotage, to reinvent self-image, and build self- esteem. I help with relationship-related problems and complicated situations in the workplace.

Reinventing self-esteem, feeling good enough, and building energising relationships may be your goals too, perhaps by working towards breaking through anxiety and removing what's holding you back.

I can help you to feel motivated, grounded, confident, safe, and relaxed, and to acquire more space in your mind from the first meeting and to move on in life.

I think the mind (the way of thinking about our self and the world) can greatly affect our decisions, relationships, and our mental, emotional and physical conditions. I think therapy should bring positive changes to our life from the very first session.

I work with difference and diversity in various ways. I recognise the impact of different forms of oppression on personal development, and on the chances that are available to people.

I am committed to working in anti-oppressive and inclusive ways. I am happy to work both short or longer term with people. Short-term work often involves specific issues and goals.

This is also true of longer-term work, but this can give way to a more free-flowing exploration of issues as they arise.

Practice description

I focus on:

  • Anxiety, trauma, communication problems ,low self-esteem, relationship-related issues, self-harm, and depression.

Other areas I work with are:

  • Depression, bereavement, addiction, and work-related problems ,and  work/life balance

I integrate the following skills and techniques while working with individuals and couples:

  • Mindfulness, EMDR, Gestalt, CBT, breathing techniques, creative therapy, focusing on feelings, use of solution-focused approaches (such as providing empowering techniques and communication skills), writing therapy, and self-compassion and self-talk therapy.

My couples therapy is based on modern couples therapy modalities, using:

  • Developmental approaches, attachment-based therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, an integrative Gestalt model, providing the skills for non-violent and non-confrontational communication, intimacy improvement based on the David Schnarch approach, differentiation, and divorce therapy. I also help clients to deal with trust issues after infidelity.

I use various techniques, choosing the ones that are appropriate for each client.

My first session

During our first meeting, I

  • Create space to understand your needs and to talk about goals.
  • Identify, with you, your existing support network and ways you can support yourself between our meetings.
  • Ask you to complete an assessment after discussing the value of assessment with you.
  • Discuss possible tools to use between sessions.

I try to make clients feel comfortable and to build trust during the first session. I give space for questions and reflection about past therapy experiences to better understand each client's needs.
