About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor (Fd Sc) with a background of 30 years’ experience working with people. My approach is Humanistic and Integrative, meaning that whilst my work is based on Humanistic principles, I also integrate theories from other approaches tailoring the work to each individual client's needs. The work I do with a client is as unique as the person themselves. I believe therapy can aid healing by providing a therapeutic relationship which is non-judgemental, authentic and based on trust.
I offer a confidential, safe space where I work with individuals on a short or long-term basis to help them explore their feelings and gain a greater understanding about issues they may be facing. This may involve looking at how they are feeling and behaving in the present but also may explore events and feelings from the past which may be affecting them today.
I also offer sessions with children and young people, working with various issues affecting their well-being such as trauma, illness, abuse, depression, anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, anger issues, attachment issues, low self-esteem, loss and bereavement, self-harm, Autism, Asperger’s and ADHD. I have wide experience working with children and young people who present challenging behaviour. I hold a diploma in sand tray therapy and I am a qualified hospital play therapist. In addition to private practice I work in a primary school as a counsellor and family support worker.
I have an enhanced DBS certificate, am in regular supervision and abide by the ethical framework of BACP.
