About me and my therapy practice

Normally based in the City and Central London, I am currently offering online therapy and EMDR which I and my clients find highly effective - and in some cases more comfortable than - face to face work.   I'd be happy to arrange a taster session so you can see how it feels to work remotely.

WHAT I OFFER

We all experience emotional difficulties or distress during our lives: stress, anxiety, depression, loss, feeling worthless, empty, uncertain or overwhelmed, particularly during these uncertain times.  Sometimes these difficulties can be hard to deal with alone or with the help of friends or family. Counselling with me is not giving advice or me listening in silence. It is about actively working together to enable you to explore your thoughts and feelings and gain valuable new perspectives about yourself and your situation. It is about helping you to resolve your difficulties yourself, find new ways of coping or give you a greater sense of control and choice in your life.

Everyone is different and your needs will be unique so I draw on a range of approaches particularly EMDR.  In the first consultation we can discuss any questions you might have and decide if it feels right for you - the 'feel right' factor is important. I am a registered provider with major insurance companies such as Axa, Aviva and WPA. Please ask for further details.

I'm also a qualified EMDR therapist. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the NICE recommended treatments for PTSD and trauma. Research shows it is also effective with issues, such as anxiety, depression, phobias, low self-esteem and complex grief which are often linked to adult or childhood trauma.

Practice description

I offer a 20-30 minute initial phone call or online meeting to talk about what brings you to therapy, how we might work together and to see if the 'fit' feels right. You can ask any questions about the way I work. Usually we then arrange a first appointment.

My first session

In first session, we discuss your presenting problem or situation and I will often ask for some background information about your life and history.  I may ask you to complete some questionnaires at or just before the session.

We agree to meet again at a regular time, usually weekly at first.  I do try to be flexible if a session needs to be rescheduled, however,  however, I ask for 48 hours notice of cancellation.

We can agree to work together short-term for a particular number of sessions or leave it more open-ended.
