About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified Psychotherapist, Certified Transactional Analyst and Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (MBACP)  I am a member of BACP, UKCP, IARTA and Metanoia Institute. I have worked with clients for 7 years and previously was in teaching for 30 years.

I believe that we are all influenced by many factors in our lives, both past and present, and that sometimes we need help to understand how these can get in the way of being able to live life fully and with ease. Therapy can provide a dedicated safe and containing space in which to explore thoughts, feelings, beliefs and unhelpful patterns of behaviour.

Considering the origin and development of these can be helpful in terms of deciding whether we want to change some of our ways of being so that we can live a happier, more fulfilled life.

Equally, sometimes focusing on the here and now may be what is needed in order to know what we want or need, or to make big decisions in our lives.

If you contact me and decide you would like to come and see me I would speak to you on the phone initially and then arrange to meet you to see if we feel we could work together. In this first session, I offer a reduced fee of £40 and I would be carrying out an informal assessment to find out about what has brought you to counselling.

I would then suggest that we do 6 sessions together to explore in more detail what you are bringing to counselling and what you are hoping to change. If we both agree that we work well together, at this point we would decide whether to continue for a longer period of time.

My first session

I offer a reduced fee first session for £40 to give us both chance to see if we think we can work together. In this introductory session I use it to establish what it is a client is looking for, what their presenting issues are and any relevant family history or background information. It is also an opportunity for potential clients to ask me any questions they may have about how I work.
