About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Val. I am an experienced counsellor offering a warm and supportive space in which I will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and concerns without judgment. I offer weekday daytime and evening and Saturday appointments.

I have experience of helping people with a wide range of issues including:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • bereavement and all loss
  • post-traumatic stress and trauma
  • low self-esteem
  • relationship or family issues
  • health challenges
  • coping with change and transition
  • building emotional resilience

   .....and more

Together we can focus on whatever is important to you right now, working at your pace and helping you to gain deeper insight and awareness of yourself and the challenges you face. I will listen sensitively to what is going on for you and will seek to understand your experience with empathy and compassion. My approach is trauma-informed and I am interested in helping you understand and trust your inner experience.

My aim is that my calm, open and interactive approach will support you in feeling comfortable with me and starting from exactly where you are, will help you in making sense of your situation, finding effective ways of coping and in making positive choices for a fulfilling and happier life.

As well as working remotely I am now also able to offer some face to face sessions again. Sessions are held in Hurstpierpoint within easy reach of Hassocks, Burgess Hill, Ditchling and Haywards Heath.

Free on street parking is available close by.

Please do feel free to contact me for an initial informal (no obligation) conversation to find out more and explore whether I might be the right counsellor for you.

Practice description

As an integrative counsellor the 3 main modalities which form the foundation of my approach are Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis (TA) which I use in a way best suited to you, your situation and what you hope to gain from counselling. I am also able to offer creative techniques.

I am also now offering Brainspotting, an approach which can help access, process and release stuck and buried feelings and trauma that have been stored in the body and brain.

My first session

I believe that one of the key factors in effective counselling is the quality of the therapeutic relationship and the trust between you and your counsellor. Our first session is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have and get a feel for whether you will feel comfortable talking with me. It is also a chance for us to talk through your needs and how it might work if we decide to work together.
