About me and my therapy practice

I have been working as a supervisor since 2005. I am senior accredited and have experience working with both student and experienced counsellors. I have a wide range of both counselling, supervisory and teaching experience.

I have a background in Nursing and teaching Nursing and I aIso offer supervision to anyone working in the caring, pastoral, church and professional sectors.

Practice description

Working together in supervision includes looking at what is normal practice in counselling, learning new ways of working and looking at how client issues impact on you the counsellor. Supervision also includes looking at self-care, continuing professional development and of course ‘working towards accreditation’.

I work primarily from Page and Woskett’s Cyclical model. I am on the UUJ (University of Ulster) Supervisors list for the Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling and the Masters in Counselling.

I previously lectured in Counselling at both the Belfast Metropolitan College and the South Eastern Regional College, teaching to Diploma level. I offer Personal Therapy to students as well as Supervision

About me and my therapy practice

Having originally come from a Nursing and Health Care background, I then trained as a counsellor and have over 27 years counselling experience. I am a BACP senior accredited therapist. I trained as a Person-centred counsellor initially but work currently from a more integrative approach where I tailor interventions to suit client needs.  I also offer body-focused therapy.

Practice description

I have been practising as a counsellor since 1995 and as a Clinical Supervisor since 2005. I have my own practice based in Lisburn and offer both short and long term counselling to individual clients. I have experience working in the Community/Voluntary sector, with the Health & Social Care Trust (EAP sector) and in Private Practice.

I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where you can openly talk about the issues that have brought you to counselling. I seek to build a warm, working alliance/relationship where you can tell your unique story and work through the thoughts, emotions and behaviours that trouble you. Each session lasts 50 mins and a short review is carried out after every 6 sessions.

Spending time in counselling can help you better understand who you are and what you would like out of life. It can also help you develop better relationships, become more confident and work through past losses and traumas. You can learn how to set realistic goals and gain a greater sense of direction and fulfilment.

I previously lectured in Counselling at both the Belfast Metropolitan College and the South Eastern Regional College, teaching to Diploma level.
