Currently, I focus on doing couples/ family work so I'm only taking new clients if both you and your partner/ family member are interested in starting therapy with me. I'm also offering a discounted rate for couple therapy as I'm still in training. I offer both online and in-person (Bristol) therapy. I work on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Please message me if you'd like to know my available time slots.
About me and my therapy practice
I'm originally from Hong Kong. I have had 10 years of counselling and psychotherapy experiences, specialising in sexuality, gender and relationship diversity issues and adults' mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression. Currently, I'm also a Counselling Psychologist in Training (Final year Doctorate student) based in Bristol.
Since 2013, I have had extensive experiences in working with the LGBTQI+ community in Hong Kong, in particular with men who have sex with men that experienced substance use issues as well as sexual health concerns, including HIV and other STIs. Since 2021, I have been working with minority ethic individuals in the UK. In 2022-23, I offered specialised therapeutic approach to people who experience eating difficulties in the NHS outpatient community service.
Sessions can be conducted in Cantonese, Mandarin and/or English. I provide both in-person (in Bristol only) or online sessions.
My therapeutic approach is relational integrative approach, which means that I focus on the relational context in therapy while applying different kinds of therapy and techniques to fit the needs and difficulties of each individual. For example, in psychodynamic therapy, I focus on the unconscious processes and past events, which will facilitate the client to make sense of what is going on through enhancing self-awareness into present difficulties. In CBT, we can work collaboratively to explore your beliefs and personal rules that contribute to the maintenance of the difficulties in life.
Besides this, I'm a trained EMDR therapist. I've been providing therapy with a trauma-informed approach for trauma survivors. If you are experiencing any emotional distress followed by a traumatic experience, I am able to provide this specific psychotherapy treatment.
I offer both short-term and long-term counselling sessions.
My first session
Starting therapy isn't always easy and arranging the first session could be a stressful process for some people. Having a sense of fear and uncertainty is understandable. If you have concerns, I'm happy to schedule a 5-10mins phone call before we schedule a time for a face-to-face initial consultation (sometimes called an assessment). This is a chance for us to meet and to understand your expectation in therapy. It's also an opportunity for you to get a sense of whether we may be a good match.
Currently, I'm charging on a sliding scale based on personal income. Before we meet for the first time, I will let you know details regarding payment and I will send you a contract that includes cancellation and rescheduling policy. In the first session, we will also discuss practical arrangements, such as time and frequency of appointments.
Please note that I only have limited number of concession rates for full-time University students.
