About me and my therapy practice
My approach is affirming and sensitive to cultural and lifestyle choices and challenges. Some of my particular client groups are Expats, Repats, adult Third-Culture Kids, and people in Intercultural Relationships.
I’m an integrative and trauma-informed counsellor. This means I'm trained in multiple approaches to therapy and I integrate different approaches into my work depending on my client's needs. It also means I understand how trauma and long-term negative experiences could affect our body and mind - our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
I would describe my life journey as 'colourful', with different cultures and backgrounds, and various shades of life and work experiences. These experiences led me to have a particular interest in cultural-related challenges and small 't’ trauma - the one that seems small but can cause deep emotional pain and leave us prone to negative emotions and overthinking. Anxiety is one that I work with the most.
Practice description
I see a counselling relationship as a partnership, and our session is a dedicated time in a safe zone for you to explore, reflect, experiment, and discover 'you' and the answers that are right for you.
I aim to work with your goal/s and help you gain clarity about yourself and your situations, so you can break out of unhelpful patterns, and find different ways of dealing with your internal and external challenges.
How we might work together largely depends on you and your needs. I'd say that developing self-awareness, befriending, understanding, and tolerating emotions, as well as building self-compassion have been vital in my approach.
I place great importance on attuning to your world, so you feel heard, accepted, and validated as you are. That also goes for your pattern of responses - because they got you through some tough times so far, albeit they may not be helpful for you now. We can work through them together and find different ways that are more helpful to your life 'now'.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute introductory chat for us to get a sense of each other, ask questions, and see if we may be the right fit.
I get that 15 minutes may not feel like much to determine if I'm the right counsellor for you. I would encourage you to consider how you're feeling when you're talking to me...
- Do you feel comfortable enough just talking to me in general?
- Do you feel that I'm empathetic and interested in what you have to say?
- Do my responses feel relevant, respectful, and genuine to you?
It's a very personal journey and you are not obligated to have counselling with me after the intro session. Please feel free to email me to ask further questions before booking.
