About me and my therapy practice

Hello, and a warm welcome!

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and EMDR therapist. I am a registered member with BACP, an accredited member with NCS and member with EMDR UK & Ireland. I have attended additional training in the Rewind Technique, DBT Essential Skills, PNMH, Trauma, CBT-T and Clinical Supervision.

I have over 18 years experienced of counselling clients in different settings, presenting with a range of difficulties. For the past 9 years I have worked as Counsellor for the NHS, primary mental health and staff wellbeing across South Wales. I have a special interest in treating clients who have experienced Trauma, work related issues/stress and Perinatal Mental Health

Practice description

A Relational Integrative framework, drawing from Person centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, including Mindfulness and Compassion-based approaches; I tailor the therapy to the individual, using a blend of therapeutic approaches best suited to the clients personal circumstances and particular problem.

I have a special interest in helping people recover from traumatic experiences. Many people who come for therapy have had some kind of traumatic experience. This may be a one-off event, a series of events. I can help you understand and manage your symptoms, process the traumatic experience using a gentle approach that allows you to come to terms with what happened, at your own speed. An important part of the therapy is helping you to recognise what is happening in your body when your threat system is triggered and to learn strategies and techniques that can help restore your sense of balance and safety.

My first session

The first counselling session will provide a safe and private space  for you to talk through what has brought you to Therapy, and explore what you hope to gain from the therapeutic process. I will start with introductions and go over a counselling contract, including confidentiality and limitations. It is an opportunity for us to meet and decide if we can work together, if I am the right Therapist for you; if I have the right skills and expertise to support you.
