About me and my therapy practice
I am a psychodynamically trained counsellor and therapist working with adults in Lewes, Brighton and online.
Whether you are seeking therapy for a particular reason, such as depression, bereavement or relationship difficulties, or want to explore your life and what you want it to be, I offer a non-judgmental and secure space; you will not be judged or advised to take any particular course. Working with your life history, current circumstances, dreams and fantasies, we can explore and work through whatever you bring into the room.
Psychodynamic therapy is based on the principle that we are shaped and influenced by our early life history but that these patterns can be changed. Therapy enables us to look at and be curious about these blueprints, many of which operate on an unconscious level. Often the strategies that kept us safe as a child can outlive their usefulness and become barriers to how we want to be in the world. The therapeutic relationship is the means by which our history and ways of being with others can be explored and transformed. Working with dreams and fantasies can also be a powerful way to understand what is going on beneath the surface and to bring these aspects of ourselves into awareness.
Practice description
I practice from rooms in central Lewes and central Brighton. Both are close to stations and on major bus routes with car parking available nearby. I also work online via Zoom.
I work with adults of all ages and offer short and long term counselling and therapy in person and online, usually once a week. I can offer weekday and some evening and weekend sessions.
My first session
Research shows that the strength of the therapeutic relationship is the key predictor of change in therapy, so it is important that we feel we can work together. For this reason, first sessions are an opportunity for you to bring whatever you wish and to ask any questions. Therapy begins from the first meeting and therefore the session is charged at the normal rate.
If we decide to work together I will ask you to provide some background information about yourself. All information will be held securely and confidentially in accordance with data protection legislation.
