About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling low or overwhelmed, stuck, or worried all the time? Is your emotional health affecting your relationships and daily life? Have you lost your self confidence or the sense of who you are?

I'm Janey, a registered psychotherapist with The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I am trained integratively, which means I can draw from several therapeutic approaches. This ensures that I can tailor the therapy to be very personal to you. I have 25 yrs of experience of working with individuals and families struggling with their emotional health. If you are struggling to cope emotionally ,with your mood, thoughts ,relationships , life's stresses or have experienced abuse/ trauma recently or in the past and would like to work through these issues, I would be happy to help.

I offer a professional, caring, calm,  and confidential space, where you can safely explore your issues without feeling judged. I am particularly influenced by person centred theory and agree with the belief that everyone has the capacity to heal , grow and are the expert in overcoming their difficulties in order to move on with their lives. My clients have commented that I am gentle ,warm, calm and easy talk to. I am currently working on the phone and online via zoom but hope to offer face to face work both short and long term in the very near future.

Practice description

I have worked with a wide variety of clients, I currently volunteer for a domestic abuse charity  and have additional training in this field, coupled with additional training in sexual and physical assault and abuse including historic childhood trauma. I am  experienced in offering assessments and treatments for depression and anxiety, bereavement, attachment issues and many other difficulties. I have also worked in the emergency services settings  and understand the pressures front line workers are under.

I have specialist training and experience in working with antenatal and post natal parents in the NHS. I offer counselling for antenatal and post natal depression, fertility issues, birth trauma, bonding/attachment issues,  traumatic pregnancies and pregnancy loss. Deciding to conceive, expecting and having a baby can evoke many strong emotions from past experiences, or birth itself and coping with the transition. I have extensive additional training in this area. I am very passionate about raising the profile of antenatal and post natal mental health of both partners and am a "Perinatal Mental Health Champion". This means I  have additional training to teach other health professionals how to help and recognise parents who are struggling with their emotional health.  I am particularly interested in the research around epigenetics and neurobiology that shows how important our earliest experiences and relationships are in shaping who we are today.
