About me and my therapy practice

My background and my practice

I am a Humanistic counsellor who trained at the Metanoia Institute in London. I was born in Central London to an Irish/ Scottish family and brought up within culturally and socially diverse communities. I worked for many years supporting others within the public sector, mainly within hospitals and in higher education. As a therapist I have previously worked with low cost counselling agencies, and families affected by substance (alcohol) misuse. Currently I work with unpaid carers alongside my private practice.

I trained as a therapist because when I needed it a counsellor listened, and I truly felt heard. I am here to offer you the same non-judgemental and confidential space to talk at your pace and within your comfort zone.

What does that mean for you?

You may be thinking about counselling because you feel anxious, overwhelmed, depressed, bullied, unheard, or stuck at this point your life. You may want to talk confidentially about an issue that doesn't feel appropriate to share with families or friends. Whatever your reason for choosing counselling I just want to say well done! By reaching out you have just taken the first step towards change.

If we work together, we will start by looking at your experiences of the world, your beliefs, and your values. We will consider how these shape the way you think, feel and behave, and how this affects your relationships with others.

I use a number of different approaches including Person Centered, Gestalt, and Transactional Analysis in my counselling practice. During our sessions I will check in that I am the same page by asking questions and reflecting back to you. The sessions are always client led, as you are the expert on you. We will then work together on the issues you bring to therapy to find new ways forward.
