About me and my therapy practice
I have worked for 16 years as a qualified counsellor with adults, young people, children and families in various settings: a GP surgery, low-cost clinic, primary and secondary schools and a private practice. Prior to my counselling training I worked in the fields of drug and alcohol rehabilitation, mental health and homelessness.
I offer long and short-term work with adults, young people and children. I also work with children and parents together. My approach is psychodynamic, offering a creative, boundaried, safe and confidential space for clients to explore their past, present and future. I am led by the client - the issues they would like to bring and what they would like to achieve in the counselling. I give time and attention to what takes place in the room, in the here and now. It is a collaborative space, my stance being strongly relational, valuing the importance of relationships and our experience of these throughout our lives.
For nursery and junior-aged clients I offer an arts and play-based approach, providing a free but contained and confidential space for them to explore, express and process feelings. Secondary-aged children and young people may prefer not to work in this way. It all depends on the individual client and what they feel most comfortable with.
Children and young people I’ve worked with have faced a range of difficulties including: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, OCD, eating issues, self-harm, difficulties with learning and performing and around family and peer relationships. The opportunity for early therapeutic support can be invaluable for a young person and their future well-being.
My practice room is located in central Lewes, 5 minutes walk from the train station and bus routes and 2 minutes from a public car park.
