About me and my therapy practice

During these difficult times - it can really make a difference to have a safe, peaceful space to talk and just have time to be able to explore and make sense of your emotions/thoughts going on in your daily life.
I would like to help you to reach your full potential by giving you space to explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings to better understand their impact on your life and then identify strengths, skills and strategies you can use now and in the future.
My training as an integrative counsellor allows me to be able to personalise our sessions to your needs and suggest strategies specifically helpful to you. I believe that you are the expert of yourself and therefore - I will follow your lead regarding our exploration of the issues you would like to work through.
I can help you to try to understand the underlying reasons why you may be using negative thoughts and/or behaviours which you may have learnt in the past - some of which may not be useful or appropriate in the present.
We would work collaboratively together to work through your issues to help you make positive changes in your life.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I am an experienced integrative therapeutic counsellor which allows me to draw from different perspectives to help us to find the best way to help you move forward. I have worked with many organisations helping people work through issues affecting their mental health such as anxiety, depression, low self confidence/self esteem, bereavement, sexual/ emotional/ physical abuse, relationship difficulties, suicidal ideation and many other issues and traumas.
As mentioned, I am an integrative counsellor. However, I am a person centred counsellor at heart. Therefore, our sessions are guided by what YOU would like to explore regarding your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. As I am also qualified in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), this allows us to work together to find strategies to add to your 'toolbox' to help you to manage your feelings, thoughts and life issues in a more positive and better way.

My first session
Your 15-30 minute free consultation would focus on assessing your needs and for you to decide whether you feel I would be the best fit for you as a counsellor. This is important because studies have shown that a strong therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor is essential to successful therapy outcomes for the client.
If you decide you would like to begin counselling sessions with me, they would be for 60 minutes. I would ask your consent for me to hold your details and we would complete an assessment form which would include some personal information that I would keep confidential and securely locked in a safe place.
I would then send you a copy of your consent form and our contract to sign before we began our sessions.
