About me and my therapy practice
I have been qualified and accredited to practice psychodynamic therapy since 2011. I have also practiced both short-term and longer term therapy for many years previous to that. My earlier work was within the NHS from where I gained a wide experience in working with clients who have diverse difficulties. Starting therapy and choosing a therapist can be a harrowing time but the first step is the beginning of change. You can do this by ringing me or emailing me and if I can’t speak to you right away, I will get back to you when you leave a brief message for me.
My practice is in a private residence situated at the end of a quiet cul de sac. There is ample car parking available near the residence. My room is currently upstairs and I have toilet facilities near the front entrance door. When a time has been given to you to start I ask that you arrive as near to that time as possible so that privacy for you and others is maintained.
My first session
This can understandably be an anxious time and I try to ease you into it as best I can. I will start by explaining the process to you after which you can tell me about your concerns and reason for wanting therapy. I will also ask you something about the background of your difficulties. You will not be expected to say anything you wish to keep private at this point. I will also tell you something about the nature of therapy and explain the model I will use to help you. You can also ask me anything about the work as the main focus of the first meeting is for us both to see what will be the most helpful for you. Your preferred times, the likely length of therapy and my availability will also be discussed as will your fee and method of payment. You will not have to decide there and then if you are going to commit to therapy and will have 2 weeks to think about it before committing to it. During the two week period, our agreed time will be protected. Each session will last strictly for 50 minutes although the first one may take 90 minutes.
