I work with Individuals, Young People (Age 16 and over) and Couples.
When your hit by an unexpected life event it can sometimes be hard to recover. It can be difficult to share your thoughts or feelings with friends or family as they may not understand. As Counsellors we are trained to sit alongside people who are finding life hard; to offer empathy and acceptance in order to help you explore your thoughts and feelings in confidence.
Counselling sessions offer you the opportunity to explore your feelings in a safe environment. Counselling isn't advise, so we will not tell you what to do but we will help you process any difficult feelings and help you make sense of what has happened so that you can make positive decisions for the future.
My first session
First sessions are usually Initial Assessments. They are an opportunity for us to chat through what you've been experiencing and for both of us to decide whether we think that we would be comfortable working with one another. We will discuss the following:
- What your understanding of Counselling is?
- The type of Counselling that I am offering
- What your hopes/ expectations are of Counselling and of me, as a Therapist?
- How we will work together?
- The Counselling Agreement
During the assessment session I will ask various questions, so that I can get an accurate picture of your situation and decide whether my expertise are the best fit for your position or whether you need to be signposted to another service.
At the end of the assessment there will be time for you to ask questions and we will discuss whether you would like to take counselling forwards.
The whole assessment takes between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 mins and is charged at a full session rate.
