About me and my therapy practice
Allison Claughan, BACP Registered Therapeutic Counsellor. MBACP. Basildon SS16.
Hello, my name is Allison and I am a Integrative Person Centered Counsellor. I work primarily with Adults on a 1:1 basis but also work with Young People aged 15 and over. I hold a current DBS Certificate which enables me to work independently with students in schools but also in my Private Practice.
I work predominantly with individuals experiencing Stress, Anxiety and Depression. I support those experiencing Stress & Anxiety, helping them to live calmer, more contented lives; I work with those suffering with Depression, helping them find a sense of value, meaning and purpose .
I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists. (MBACP) I have been happily married for 25 years, have two teenage children and have had many years experience of working with Children & Young People in local Secondary Schools. I believe that the combination of my life experience and my professional qualifications and training make me a good counsellor, who is able to listen, empathise and understand.
When life hits hard we sometimes need somewhere to go and someone to talk to who can help us make sense of it all. Person Centered counselling provides you with exactly that. It provides a safe place for you to talk, without fear, judgement or bias. It allows you the time to safely explore issues which you may have not up until this point, felt like looking at and can help you find a positive way of moving forwards.
The Core Conditions of Person Centered Therapy are: Acceptance, Empathy and Unconditional Respect, regardless of your situation. It is these basic conditions that allow the two of us to build a positive therapeutic relationship, with confidentiality being central to all that it is being shared.
I am currently offering Telephone/ Video Calls, particularly during this time of Anxiety as we come to grips with the effects of Covid-19; self- isolation and it's impact upon society.
My first session
First sessions are usually Initial Assessments. They are an opportunity for us to chat through what you've been experiencing and for both of us to decide whether we think that we would be comfortable working with one another. We will discuss the following:
- What your understanding of Counselling is?
- The type of Counselling that I am offering
- What your hopes/ expectations are of Counselling and of me, as a Therapist?
- How we will work together?
- The Counselling Agreement
During this assessment session I will ask various questions, so that I can get an accurate picture of your situation and decide whether my expertise are the best fit for your position or whether you need to be signposted to another service.
At the end of the assessment there will be time for you to ask questions and we will discuss whether you would like to take counselling forwards.
The whole assessment takes between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 mins and is charged at a full session rate.
