About me and my therapy practice
A little about me - I am Sue, an experienced BACP registered, accredited counsellor with 15 years+ experience in a range of counselling settings: primary care mental health, bereavement, sexual abuse and drug and alcohol counselling. I am also an experienced counselling supervisor and lecturer. Before becoming a counsellor I worked in mental health services and managed a mental health advocacy service, after which I moved into education where I worked for over 10 years as a lecturer of counselling. I have been in private practice for over 5years and have a comfortable accessible therapy room in Denbigh, with good public transport links and parking opposite. I am an ACTO certified online and telephone therapist and can offer sessions via video call or phone and have completed CPD training to offer walk & talk therapy and to work with couples.
A little about how I work - all approaches to therapy have value, what is key is ensuring you feel respected and accepted. I believe that therapy works best when you feel you have a safe confidential space to talk about your life and anything that may cause you to feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or emotional. I will work with you to agree the best approach to your therapy.
Practice description
I provide a space where you can make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences. I draw on all of my training and experience to help you to work towards a resolution to the issues that bring you to counselling.
I can offer both short and longer term counselling subject to regular review.
My first session
In our first session I will try to understand as fully as possible you and the problem you are bringing to counselling and to work with you to find a way of working that suits you, this will include a comprehensive assessment. Although it may seem a little daunting, it is important in helping me to gain a sense of who you are and what concerns you at this point in your life. It may be that your difficulties are best served by a specialist agency, or another practitioner, if this is the case we can discuss this in the initial session. It is equally important that you get an opportunity to decide if you wish to work with me beyond this first session.

Build an effective, supportive supervisory relationship
Consider professional standards and ethics
Facilitate a collaborative interaction, to protect the interests of and serve the needs of the client/s.
Enhance and enable supervisee development in relation to current practice
Focus on the impact of client work on supervisees, increasing self-awareness and how this effects your therapeutic practice

My first session
A good supervisory relationship is key to effective supervision, I offer an introductory session to prospective supervisees so we can decide if we think we will be a good fit.
If I think you would be better served by a different supervisor then we can discuss this, equally you are under no obligation to continue to work with me beyond this first session.
