About me and my therapy practice
During the Coronavirus lockdown, I am able to offer Telephone Counselling Sessions in the same format as face-to-face.
I am a mature and experienced Counsellor with over 14 years face-to-face counselling in all aspects of The Human Condition. I have wide and comprehensive personal experience of life's many challenges, and have worked both in the corporate world and as self-employed. I have also been a daughter, a wife, a mother, a grandmother.
My training is Eclectic, which includes a wide variety of Therapeutic Approaches which I specifically tailor to each individual client's needs. My practice begins as Person-Centred, which puts the client first-and-foremost in the Therapeutic Engagement; it includes a Psychodynamic search into what may contribute to cause, and is then mainly Solution-Focused (using mainly REBT and CBT practices), as I have spent 11 years in Employee Assistance Programs (Workplace Counselling) and tend towards Evidence-based. In cases of Bereavement, I can help with acceptance and process.
I have successfully helped clients with issues of Stress, Anxiety, Anger, Low Self-Esteem, Loss, Bereavement (including Pets), Relationships (including Family Relationships and Matrimonial Issues), Domestic Abuse, Rape & Sexual Abuse, False Allegations, and many of the other issues that life deals to us.
Practice description
My practice engagement is firstly person-centred, which puts you the client first and foremost, and working at a pace that is best suited to you, and in your comfort zone. Within this non-judgmental, safe setting and within your frame of reference, we can then explore the issues that are undermining your happiness and quality of life; past, present and future. I am principally a Solution-Focused therapist, and help you look at the details and evidence of your situation so that we can work towards your ideal outcome. My toolbox of therapies is eclectic and comprehensive, principally using the evidence-based therapies like REBT and CBT. With cases of Loss and Bereavement, we stay within the Person-Centred framework, to allow you to express all of your feelings in a safe and therapeutic space. Counselling is always about change: Either changing the way we see and deal with something, or in help processing the changes that are thrust upon us like Death and Loss. There is always a positive to be found in every negative event. When we learn from this, it helps us find resilience and optimism for future challenges, of which there are many in the course of our lives as human beings.
My first session
Each session is one hour, and the first session is a full session after we have established a 5-minute introduction, including risk assessment, a few details, and signed the counselling contract.
You are not bound to any set number of sessions, as you will be the judge of whether the sessions are helpful to you. Sessions are usually on a weekly basis, but can be extended to 2 or 3- weekly. However, for maximum effect, weekly sessions are recommended, and ideally over 6 or 8 weeks. The opportunity is always there to make contact again at a future time, or intermittently for ongoing support.
What I can help with
Abuse, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Business coaching, Career coaching, Child related issues, Depression, Development coaching, Identity issues, Life coaching, Loss, Personal development, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues
