About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced psychotherapist and clinical supervisor.

I have a strong commitment to therapist self care and support counsellors to consider how best to balance the challenges of being a counsellor with the demands of our own lives.

I have experience of managing counselling, bereavement and palliative care delivery in the statutory and voluntary sectors and I  support counsellors to consider their ethical professional practice and the management of risk.

I am experienced at teaching counselling and psychotherapy at degree and postgraduate level and encourage and support evidence based practice.

My experience gives me a wide understanding of the issues and challenges for counsellors working in private practice or organisational settings, including placements.

I have experience of supervising therapists who have long experience of this work, but also welcome student therapists who are in placement.

I am also able to offer consultancy and clinical supervision to other professions including health and social care staff.

Practice description

I work psychodynamically but have experience of working from other counselling perspectives with a particular focus on interpersonal and relational approaches.

I provide a supportive clinical experience that builds on the training, skills and personal and professional experience of the supervisee.

I bring a supervisory focus exploring the countertransference between client and counsellor.

I support the continual development of the counsellors practice by noting and referring to the personal and professional goals of the practitioner.

My first session

You are invited to a first supervision meeting of 50 minutes where we can explore your expectations and requirements of clinical supervision.

I will have sent you a pre-meeting questionnaire that supports our discussion.

At that meeting we will agree frequency, timing and price for the supervision and the supervisory contract.

We will initially review the supervisory arrangements after three months to review and evaluate how the supervision is meeting the needs of the counsellor and their clients.

I then recommend an annual review to consider how the supervision meets the needs of the counsellor and if their clinical work still remains within the competence of the supervisor and supervision.
