About me and my therapy practice
Experienced accredited psychotherapist / counsellor and supervisor working in private practice in this area for over a decade; helping clients deal with am range of life’s issues including …anxiety, depression, panic attacks, anger, relational problems and bereavement (see full list).
Fundamentally I work through an integrative or pluralistic prospective, which bring together elements of different therapies that I feel appropriate to the needs of the individual client.
Practice description
Describing how how you work is always a little tricky: listing the modality that therapists use (person centred, psychodynamic, CBT and many others) does not really inform the client of how the work will be, and what values the therapist holds, or what the therapists consider important when working with the client. So….here goes.
Often just careful listening to the client in a non judgemental way and having an understanding of whats it’s like to live in the clients world is enough to enable change to take place.
I believe the client is the expert on themselves, after all they have lived with themselves for a lifetime. However I have thousands of hours of client work, and like to think that I know something of the process of therapy, and how it works. Putting two together is a good start.
I believe the relationship between therapist and client is relative to a positive outcome. Being real or authentic for both parties is important.
It’s important that both sides of the brain are considered and listened to. Our left brain for cognition and order our right for feelings and emotion. The ability to regulate our emotions is also important.
I would encourage self care and finding time for yourself; being heard, building a support network, and meditation to help ground one self to be in the moment.
