About me and my therapy practice

I have been in practice for 20 years. Initially I trained as a humanistic counsellor. At this time I worked mainly in bereavement and hospice care. I then went to university and trained in psychology research (BSc) Hons. I also completed a counselling supervision diploma in 2005. I have 15 years of experience working with cancer care and health anxiety. 10 of those years I worked in GP practices.

I work in an integrative way with my clients.  This means that I draw on many different psychological ideas to help my clients. For some a person-centred approach of being listened to and being heard and having a safe place to explore thoughts and feelings is useful. For others, it may be that a cognitive behavioural approach might be more helpful for those who are feeling overwhelmed and might need to learn how to think about feeling.  For others it might be to learn more about self or to develop new insights into the situation they find themselves in.  I am able to offer mindfulness techniques for those who want to learn to relax and take a break from the chatter of the mind.

Practice description

When you arrive you will be welcomed into a warm therapeutic non-judgemental space where you will be fully accepted for who you are.

I am mindful that we are all human beings having a human experience moment to moment.  We are all shaped by our experiences in life and we may create defences to protect ourselves from real or perceived harm. It can be useful to become self-aware of possible underlying beliefs that we may have about ourselves and the world around us and to examine whether they are helpful to us or hinder us in the now.

My first session

I will offer you a counselling assessment and ask you to complete a short feelings questionnaire. This will enable me to get a sense of how you are feeling.  I will ask you lots of open questions and we can think together about what your goal of therapy might be and then think together about how I can best support you.
