About me and my therapy practice

Gentle kindness, warmth and respect are the most important foundation for counselling. I am told that my being very 'normal' and human helps my clients build confidence in me, which is so important we need to share difficult things and feel pretty terrible. Always happy to have a chat before booking a session, if you would like to contact me.

You are the most important person in counselling! My job is to find a way to work that fits you and your needs, so I adapt to you rather than expecting you to fit to my approach. It is all about my offering empathy, not judging and honesty to develop trust, so you might feel safe to share the hard stuff. What you get is someone, solid warm and adaptable, who can sit and work with all sorts of life traumas and struggles, with the training and knowledge to help make changes.

You are in control of the process! As well as talking, we can look at things from a variety of approaches. if you feel it would be useful.

To support my professional practice, I have BA (Hons) in Person Centred Counselling with additional training and good knowledge of many of the styles of counselling.

I also bring a great deal of experience with over 20,000 hours of working, over a period of 20 years in the East London and Essex area and the more rural Isle of Wight, so worked with those with a very wide variety of issues and backgrounds.

Practice description

I offer privately and funded sessions as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist, Supervisor, and Tutor/Trainer and:

• Recognised by numerous organisations - worked for a variety of organisations, including NHS services, Schools, Councils, EAP's providing counselling for NHS, Front-Line services, Prison staff, Insurance Companies and for Charities providing for all age groups.

• Work in short-term, 6 session and long-term unlimited models.

• Offer Face to face, with couples, group and with a whole family system if needed.

• Work remotely via a variety of media to accommodate what have safe access to.

• Professional Clinic at my home providing anonymity in a friendly but professional environment. I can offer alternatives, if required.

• Although, I don't have easy wheelchair access, my clinic is downstairs with a fairly flat entrance and very close parking.

• My work is underpinned by professional standards. I am Accredited and Registered by the BACP, a member of the Person Centred Association and the Isle of Wight Family Therapy Association. Registered with the ico. (Information Commissioners Office), so you know that I comply with Data Protection law.

My first session

The first session is never as scary or demanding as you might think! A bit of time for you to see if you feel comfortable to start working with me, so no pressure and to make sure that I am the right person for you.

We will need to share some details and I can send you some written information as to what counselling is about and how I work professionally, which you can read at your leisure.

It also gives us an opportunity to work out how might work together and discuss what we might need from each other to work safely and what you can expect from me as a professional.

It is useful if you can share some of the reasons as to why to wish have counselling but this can be brief and I will not be firing lots of questions at you. There is no commitment to a number of sessions, just relying on your experience and what you feel you want.
