About me and my therapy practice

I offer relational supervision to both trainee and qualified counsellors.  I am a member of the Supervisor Network for Leeds Beckett University and work within their four-way agreement to support student counsellors in a collaborative way.

I work in an integrative, relational way in my private practice and, this is mirrored in the supervision that I offer.  My aim is to establish a good working alliance with supervisees and I appreciate the importance of creating a supervisory relationship where there is mutual trust, a healthy attachment and a willingness to be open and vulnerable.

Practice description

I see (some of) my key responsibilities as a supervisor as being:

  • to offer supervisees space to explore and clarify their practice
  • to appropriately share experience, information and skills
  • to challenge unethical, unwise or incompetent practice
  • to challenge personal or professional blind spots
  • to be aware of contracts, lines of responsibility and boundary issues

I ask supervisees to be as prepared as possible for their supervision to ensure that they get what they need and this might include:

  • consideration of supervision time - prioritise what is most important for them to bring
  • issues identified since previous supervision that are troubling/or of concern(client work, personal, organisational)
  • thoughts, feelings and wishes which arise when starting session

My first session

I offer a free initial telephone conversation which can be helpful to decide if we feel we would be a good fit and if we would be able to establish a good supervisory relationship.

Key elements/questions to consider (both for me and a potential supervisee) might be:

  • preferred therapeutic modality
  • qualities
  • skills and experience
  • attitudes
