About me and my therapy practice

I work with my supervisees to explore their client work as well as the personal impact of this. Recognising the importance of my supervisees well being as much as the work that is taking place with their clients.

I explore the client work from a curious perspective, thinking together with my supervisee about what the client is bringing, how my supervisee is responding. Thinking together about other ways of working and supporting them in the developing practice.

I safely bring challenge, being curious about my supervisees response and working with them to identify their self within the therapy, the impact the work is having on them and anything that might be going on that is not being said.

I encourage further development through CPD, reading and safely practising interventions or responses in supervision.

Practice description

My Clinical Supervision is underpinned by four main aims;

  • To provide a safe space for clinical exploration
  • To promote professional development for clinicians in practice and self awareness
  • To contribute to positive client outcomes
  • Provide ethical guidance in dealing with clinical issues.

These are achieved through working with my supervisee's to identify the clients issues, what is happening in the room and what may be being left out of the room, considering together what the practitioner is bringing into the room, ensuring the practitioners wellbeing and collaboratively exploring different ways of working.

As a trained Person Centred Counsellor and established training and clinical manager, development and achieving full potential for supervisee’s is a core aspect of the clinical supervision I provide.

Having worked within a number of different sectors and experienced different approaches to Supervision I find the experiential aspect of my supervision is a key element. Using active supervision skills to look at client work from different angles, exploring and developing clinical skills and providing a safe space to practice techniques or interventions appropriate for the client work.

Exploring challenge together, recognising what is not being brough to supervision as much as what is being brought is a key element in deepening the supervision relationship.

My first session

Establishing an in-depth working alliance is essential for effective clinical supervision to take place. Therefore I offer a free introductory session where we can meet to discuss our experience, skills and expectations to understand better how we would work together. As with therapy I feel it is essential the supervisee feels comfortable with their Clinical Supervisor.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, i'm Claire an experienced Counsellor from the North East.

I know it can be daunting to take the first step in reaching out for help and I want to reassure you that there is help there. I am passionate about ensuring people receive the right help for them at the right time.

I am a person centred trained counsellor which means I am led by you. Providing a safe, non-judgemental space to explore whatever it is that has brought you to counselling. Working alongside you to identify ways of working through these and getting to the place you want to be.

As the expert of your own life I will listen and be curious, supporting you in:

  • understand better why you are feeling as you are
  • how to not feel this way.
  • identifying what barriers there may be,
  • what steps need to be taken,
  • how to process and deal with what you have experienced

I have experience of working with trauma and abuse, grief and bereavement, anxiety, depression, self worth and identity.

Practice description

Building a trusting and secure relationship between therapist and client is essential for any therapy to take place.

Providing a space where my clients feel safe to be vulnerable, know they can discuss and bring anything without fear of being judged or being responsible for another persons feelings is an important part of the therapy I provide.

Recognising what my client is brining into the room, and not bringing into the room, I will reflect and explore these giving space to discuss if my client wants to.

I may at time suggest certain tasks or activities that I feel will help with the issues we are working with, whether this be a worksheet to document anxiety or journaling to record emotions. This is only if we feel, together, it would be helpful.

Working with clients to explore past events, core beliefs and values that may be impacting on current experiences.  As well as working on the here and now, looking at ways to alleviate distress, resolve past hurts or adjust to life changing events.

My first session

I believe therapy is only successful if it is the right therapist for you.

The first session will be a free half an hour call or video to meet, discuss what is bringing you to therapy and me explain how I would work with you.

This gives us both the opportunity to see whether we are the right fit for each other. This is about you getting the right help you need.
