About me and my therapy practice

Counselling with Jane. Hello and welcome. I’m wondering if you’re here because you’re suffering in some way. Perhaps no one understands, cares, or even notices. You feel alone in this, and you’re struggling to cope. Maybe you feel disconnected, lost, or confused. You want the pain to stop or something to change but don’t know how. I’m interested if you’re looking for someone who will truly listen to you, recognise your pain, and understand what you’re going through. Life to be better and freer where you feel reconnected to who you are.

As children, we prioritise our attachment to our caregivers over our feelings and authentic selves in an attempt to protect and defend ourselves so that we can feel safe and survive. We learn early on which feelings to avoid and fear because they’re unacceptable in our environment, and we manage our feelings as best we can through the eyes of a child. We try to make sense, creating beliefs about ourselves as we identify with the feeling and felt experience.

The therapeutic space that is provided needs to feel safe, with a connection to another who is non-judgemental and compassionate. Being deeply seen and feeling held safely and emotionally enables you to be vulnerable and open. You have the answers within you, and the counselling process is like holding up a mirror so you can see yourself more clearly. It's in and through the experience itself that expands your awareness, compassion and understanding. Self-awareness is a crucial seed for individual growth; you cannot change what you're not aware of.

We are adaptable and have the capacity to respond differently. As adults, we can be in charge and relearn how to manage and regulate our feelings with greater understanding. This can lead to a change in our adaptive behaviour and reduce the need to act out our emotions. With curiosity and compassion for our suffering, we can understand how and where our beliefs may have formed and made sense when we were overwhelmed and afraid as children.

Practice description

Cultivating self-compassion can help in reconnecting with yourself and gaining a deeper understanding of who you are. It may help you feel empowered and encourage you to look within to find solutions. The journey of self-discovery is seldom straightforward, can often take time and be influenced by a variety of life situations and needs. Depending on where you are in life and what’s going on at the time.

Do you feel like you've had enough and are ready to bring about some peace or make a change? Do you think counselling can be helpful for you? Do you sense that you’re in a place with the strength and energy to engage? Are you willing to step outside your comfort zone and perhaps be open to looking within? Can you create space and allow for the ebb and flow of awareness, compassion, and understanding?

Awareness helps us see more clearly the truth about ourselves, which can lead to more freedom in our lives. The truth can help you feel better, even though it may be painful to face at times. It gently starts with being kind to yourself and your own suffering. Healing occurs when your mind and body work together. Are you ready to begin?

Hello, my name is Jane, and I am a BACP registered counsellor. I offer individual counselling for adults 18 and over which is available in both time-limited and open-ended therapy. I work online via secure (encrypted) video conferencing, UK-wide.

I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with experience in supporting what clients want and need out of life. I help people through the counselling process based on the psychodynamic model which is enhanced by an integrative approach to therapy. This understanding recognises and adapts to individual needs and circumstances.

By working in this way, the therapeutic relationship offers a secure base on which the client's self-awareness can evolve. Who we are is influenced by our experiences, relationships, and the environment that we grew up in.

My first session

Your first step is a free 30-minute introductory telephone call (we can schedule a time that works for both of us). Our call is an opportunity to discuss your needs and expectations, and to see if I can be of help. I will first email you a Contact Details form, please fill it out and send it back to me before our call.

Your second step will be an initial 50-minute online session. This is to decide whether working online with me is a good fit for you and where you are in your life right now. I will first email you an Assessment form and a Consent form, please fill them out and return them to me before our session. (The Consent form will be discussed during this first session).

Your third step would be to agree to meet online each week on a regular day and time that is convenient for both of us. You are under no obligation, but if you decide to continue counselling, regularity will make it easier for you to fit into your life.

Your third step could, of course, be you deciding that you do not want to continue.

We will discuss how many sessions you may need towards the end of our first session. It is important that you feel comfortable working with me and that you consider it carefully. When you are ready, you can decide whether or not to begin counselling; there is no obligation.

If you decide to proceed, your Consent form becomes our working agreement and commitment to work together. It serves to safeguard both you and me. It includes our boundaries and responsibilities so that we are both aware of what is expected of us. This helps to create a safe and confidential relationship between us.

At the time of booking, I ask for payment in advance by debit/ credit card at least 24 hours prior to your session. You will have access to a secure client portal through jane.app software called My Account. This account can be set up when you make your first booking and receive your welcome email.
