About me and my therapy practice
Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my profile and for being curious about learning more about me and my therapy practice.
My name is Liz and I trained to be a therapist when I was 40 years old. I have been working as a counsellor for over 13 years. This was a real change in direction for me but a change I am so glad I made. By the time I was 40, I had experienced many events in my life and I feel this has really helped in my journey to become the therapist I am today. I also feel it enables me to be open, non-judgemental and empathic to experiences you may have gone through both past and present and concerns you may hold for the future.
My initial training was based in the model of Person Centred Therapy, which holds you at the centre of the work, is led by you and empowers you to make connections, decisions and changes, which you feel are best for you. As my training progressed, I was introduced to psychodynamic theory, connecting past to present, exploring your experiences of childhood and how they may be impacting you today.
Over the years and with further knowledge gained through study about other theoretical models of therapy, I have become what I would consider an integrative therapist. This enables the therapy to fit with you, rather than the other way round. It also means that there can be fluidity in our work together, as presentations and experiences change so can the therapy, whilst always keeping you at the centre.
I have worked for numerous organisations offering a range of therapy and am currently employed in the NHS and running my private practice.
I am passionate about the power of group work and am currently running an Improving Self Esteem group
I am able to offer Restorative Supervision, which provides a safe place for you to explore life/work balance, stress factors and ways in which you can build resilience and reflect on changes that could be made to restore and replenish a sense of balance.
My first session
Initially we would meet for a half an hour assessment to enable me to ask some questions and to explore with you what has brought you to therapy.
I will guide you through what therapy is and what it is not , think about how we will work together and give some time for you to ask any questions that you may have.
After this initial consultation, you may choose to book further sessions with me or you may wish to take some time to reflect and consider your options.
These appointments are charged at £20.
