About me and my therapy practice

Hello and Welcome,

I am currently offering face to face, online Zoom or telephone counselling, with a long term or short term focus.

Below are a few statements clients often ask for help with:

  • Someone close to me has died and I can't move forward, I feel stuck.
  • I feel so stressed, I can't sleep, my mind is on overdrive, I am having panic attacks.
  • I am struggling with anxiety and need help to find ways to manage it.
  • I feel lost, confused and I don't know which way, or where to turn?
  • I am really sad, I think I maybe depressed and I want to feel better, but I don't know how to make myself feel better.
  • I am so lonely, I have no one to talk to.
  • I am having relationship issues.

You maybe struggling with any of the sentences above, or something completely different. I can help you to move forward, manage and understand your symptons, help you find direction, increase your happiness and offer a place and person to talk to.

I am an experienced, BACP Accredited Counsellor and Supervisor. I work within the BACP's ethical framework. I offer Counselling and Supervision to adult individuals, trainee counsellors, young adults, EAP's and the elderly. I offer long or short term focused work, using Person Centred, Gestalt, TA, Pyschosynthesis, and Integrative models.

If you decide to work with me, I will provide you with a safe and confidential environment, where you can talk about what is bothering you, without the feeling of burdening someone, or being unable to say how you really feel incase you upset someone. I will offer you the opportunity to feel truly listened to, you will receive non-judgemental, unbiased support.

I see my role as supporting you in our theraputic relationship and encouraging you to explore, challenge and gain more awareness around the issues which are troubling you. I will also help you to look at your past and present behavioural patterns and coping mechanisms, enhancing what works well and tweaking what does not work quite so well.

I offer counselling support to:

Adult Individuals

Deciding you would like counselling support can often feel overwhelming, but you have already taken the first step by reading my profile.

You do not need a crisis to bring you to counselling, sometimes it is just about having a safe place to talk through thoughts that having been bothering you for some time, for example lack of confidence or low self esteem a place to work on becoming more emotionally healthy.

Late Teens - 18 onwards

We can work creatively, using stones, shells, drawing, white boards etc. or we can just sit and talk through what’s bothering you, I will adapt my work to whatever way suits you.

Student Counsellors

I have 14 years  of experience counselling and supervising student counsellors from all of the local colleges and universities. I have a good working knowledge of course requirements. I will support you through the excitement and sometimes fear of starting with clients, thinking about and finding a placement, the ups and downs of check in, the essays, hours and case study deadlines. I am BACP accredited and I meet the requirements for the colleges locally.

Supervision

I offer supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors working with adults, couples and teens 18 onwards. I supervise one to one, or I have the space to offer group supervision from my premises in Uckfield, East Sussex.

Please read my supervision profile for further information.

I have experience working with anxiety, bereavement, relationships, sexual and mental abuse, depression, shame, worthlessness, retirement, loss, self harm, low self esteem, spirituality, over eating, phobias, stress and burnout, career changes and many more issues that clients have presented with.

Please do feel free to contact me for an initial informal conversation to explore whether I might be the right counsellor for you.

My first session

In our first session together, I will create a space for you to talk about what has been going for you and what has lead you to access counselling. Whilst you tell your story, I will take some notes and ask you some questions which will help me to really understand what life looks like from your perspective.

The first session provides us with the opportunity to make sure we feel comfortable working with each other. You are under no obligation to continue if you do not think I am the right therapist for you and I will gladly support you in your search for a therapist.

Towards the end of our first session, we will talk about how you would like to move forward in your therapy. We can discuss how many therapy sessions you would like, the frequency of the sessions and the focus of your therapy, for example; you might like to work on improving a relationship issue.

I will also provide the opportunity for you to ask me any questions or answer any queries you might have.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello and Welcome,

I am a BACP accredited, experienced group and individual supervisor.

The feedback I have received as a supervisor is; I am safe, encouraging, warm, supportive and approachable. I encourage mutual curiosity and collaboration, which I believe enhances the supervision relationship. I see us as "being in this together," working for the greater good of the client. I work with a relational focus, holding the client's safety in the foreground. I appreciate sometimes coming to supervision can feel like an obligation, but I hope by offering a relational, supportive and safe space you would gain as much out of supervision as your client would from working with you.

As your supervisor I will endeavour to offer you growthful interventions and space for you to reflect on your practice. I see my role as a supervisor as being facilitative and collaborative, and I would encourage ongoing professional learning, growth and development. My work is guided by Inskipp & Proctor's Normative, Formative, Restorative model and Hawkins & Shohet's the 7 eyed model. Please feel free to contact me for an informal chat or for further information.

Practice description

My core training was Person Centered Humanistic and I was fortunate enough to have three tutors who introduced me to Gestalt, TA, Psychosynthesis. Over the years I have integrated others models into my work and I am very comfortable working creatively which I believe offers the opportunity for gaining clarity and insights into client work.

I have been in private practice for 14 years and I see a wide range of clients with a diverse range of issues. I facilitate 8 supervision groups for a West Sussex Carers Service, a Pregnacy Loss Charity and a General Counselling Service.

I have a lot of experience supervising counsellors in training and I have a very good working knowledge of the expectations of students, from most of the local colleges in East and West Sussex . I am happy to complete your paperwork and reports and I will support you in your placement work and wherever else you need support.

I have and I am happy to support and assist those I supervise with their application for BACP accreditation.

Please feel free to contact me for an informal conversation.

I look forward to hearing from you.

My first session

Our first session will allow us the opportunity to have a conversation about your supervision requirements and expectations.

My hope is during the first session you will gain a sense of me and how I work as a therapist and supervisor. This I hope will help you  to decide if we are a good fit.  I think a helpful way to decide if we are a good fit, is if you bring a piece of work you would like support with, we can work together for a set period of time during the first session. Working together this way offers you the opportunity to see how I work and gives you the space to decide if I am the right supervisor for you.

You are of course under no obligation, I believe it is essential you feel comfortable with your supervisor. With this in mind you can take your time to decide if I am the right supervisor for you.
