About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified integrative therapeutic counsellor and registered member of the BACP with many years experience of responding to and caring for those who are ill or in need in previous professional roles both within the NHS and in a pastoral context.

There are times during life’s journey when situations and events overwhelm us and it is difficult to navigate a way through them. Our usual coping strategies may no longer be sufficient to deal with the difficulties we face, despite the support of those close to us. It is at such times that the caring support of a qualified counsellor can assist you to move forward by sensitively exploring your difficulties with you and empowering you to view them from a different perspective. I would be honoured to be that counsellor and travel with you at such a challenging part of your journey through life.

I have a gentle empathetic demeanour and am perceptive of a person’s state of mind, which enables me to meet people where they are in a crisis. My practice utilises different therapeutic techniques tailored for specific client requirements. Upon the bed-rock of the person-centred approach, I employ cognitive behavioural therapy to explore and challenge unhelpful thought processes and behaviour. I use concepts from transactional analysis to illuminate relationship interactions and past events which may have generated them. I utilise various models of loss to explore painful life events. I can offer solution focused brief therapies where this is beneficial and Emotional Freedom Techniques where this is desired.

Experience in working with those who are approaching the end of their lives, has equipped me to support both the terminally ill and their loved ones at critical moments. I am sensitively able to explore difficult questions about their mortality and any other end of life concerns which arise, including spiritual and existential perspectives.

 Testimonials

'Sally Stutz is one of those rare professionals who not only has a passion for what she does, but is also endowed with a natural gift. It is a combination that brings about effective results in a way that feels absolutely effortless and comforting. I had the privilege of being counselled by Sally over a long period of time and a number of issues ranging from bereavement, family conflicts, work strains and a string of health problems that brought me to my knees. With unusual sensitivity and skill, Sally has been able to guide me until I regained confidence to look at the future with renewed optimism. Her work, her patience, her commitment have been invaluable. If today I am once again me, it is thanks to Sally Stutz. I warmly recommend her to anyone who might need counselling therapy.'

Testimonial by A.P. December 2022

‘Following several serious family events, it was good to have the opportunity to talk with a professional councillor. Sally’s way of reflecting back and questioning was gentle, insightful and always affirming. Over several conversations, Sally enabled me to explore and untangle current thoughts and feelings, which also brought to light older “bruises”. These also, Sally helped me to face and challenge unhealthy thought patterns and emotions. I was left with a very different perspective on my younger self in particular, along with a real sense of peace over some long-standing issues. I also found a way to begin to forgive others – and in some way – myself for not being perfect. Looking forward, I feel much more comfortable with myself and I’m very grateful to Sally for her time, her skills as a councillor and a safe space in which this could happen. Thank you!’
