About me and my therapy practice

Hello, do you feel sad, anxious overwhelmed? Do you feel lost, alone unsure? Have you suffered trauma, or are you not sure how you feel or why? Do you sometimes wonder who you are? Or are you struggling in your relationships at home or at work? Maybe you need to talk but you are not sure where to start. If any of these statements resonate then you are not alone. Many of us experience these difficulties, at various points in our lives. The good thing is, you are here now, wanting to seek help. To get started, I offer an initial free-of-charge consultation whereby I will invite you to discuss your needs and expectations with me.

I am an experienced counsellor and registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP). My practice spans several years, and I currently hold a position within the NHS alongside my private practice. I am also a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Beginning a therapy journey can be a daunting experience. It is really important that you feel safe and comfortable. The first few sessions are about getting to know each other, building trust and having a shared understanding of the problem. We can then focus on how to tackle the specific problem you are struggling with.

Practice description

I have experience working with complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, pregnancy (trauma) loss, relationship difficulties, and identity issues, particularly around diversity and adoption, etc.  I also have experience working with victims of domestic violence and historic abuse.

Listening is a powerful tool in the healing process, I also work creatively in order to help clients tap into their unconscious which I have consistently found can often bring unexpected but helpful connections.

My online work has recently increased due to restrictions resulting from Covid -19.  I am very aware that this is a time of increased uncertainty for people where normality has been turned on its head impacting adversely our emotional well-being.  I am also now currently working again on a face-to-face basis with clients.

My first session

As a therapist, I am aware that taking the step to tend to your emotional well-being can be a big one.  With this in mind, I endeavour to make this first contact/session as relaxed as possible for you.  The first meeting is likely to involve me asking questions in order to establish a sense of what you will need in the context of your own unique experience and to determine whether I have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to provide this support.  At the same time, it is important that you feel that we are a good fit so during this first session I will encourage you to be mindful of this.  Questions might include what has brought you to counselling, and what you hope to get from it.  Therapy is undertaken in the context of agreed boundaries so we will talk about how this will happen through a working agreement.  This discussion often prompts questions and so this first session provides the space for you to clarify anything you might feel unsure about before our work together commences.
