About me and my therapy practice

I am a Counsellor (MBACP), who has ten years’ experience providing counselling to children, families and students of all ages.

I have lived in several different countries and it has given me an understanding of multicultural perspectives.

I received an MSc in Psychology from Oxford Brookes in Oxford, an MA in Anthropology of Religion from the University of Edinburgh, a Masters in Counselling from Webster University in Geneva. I have trained in Play Therapy, Filial Therapy and am completing a further Diploma in Arts Therapy in London. I speak English and am a non-native French speaker.

Children: I  work in person with children under 12 in Headington. We work using mainly play therapy, which is an easy and natural way for children to share experiences and concerns in a comfortable way.

Adolescents: I see adolescents in person or online. I  use humanistic counselling methods, as well as arts (drawing, discussing pictures, constructing, writing, sand tray worlds etc.).

Students of all ages: I counsel and mentor students who are struggling to make life feel like it’s working, whether in their studies, at home or at work. This may be due to neurodiversity, anxiety or lack of confidence.

I have counselled children and adolescents from many different cultural and social backgrounds in France and North Africa.

I believe that the best way to offer counselling or mentoring support to people is through the relationship. I use a humanistic, integrative way of doing therapy, which means I really listen to the client and use different perspectives to help them find a more comfortable way to be.

I use play therapy and art to help children and adolescents to safely find what they want to say or to discover new perspectives on problems. They  find potential relief points or solutions in this way. It also opens up opportunities to work with parents to help resolve difficulties that affect the child and the family.

Practice description

When I work with children and adolescents, I prioritise the patient and give them a safe and considered place to be themselves and share their worries or problems. This is done weekly and can be short-term (one to four sessions) or long-term (as long as needed).

I offer online and in-person work if the child is over 12.

I also include parents, because they have an important part in the therapy process. I keep the child’s session confidential and I usually have an initial meeting with parents. We discuss follow-up meetings as needed. In this way, families can find a supportive environment to be heard or to find ways to cope with challenges.

Challenges may be:

Anxiety

Depression

School anxiety

Learning difficulties

Relationship struggles

Self/ esteem difficulties

My first session

I meet over-16s for an intake session, which last an hour. After this, sessions last 50 minutes.

Regarding children, I meet with parents first to discuss issues they are struggling with. We carry out a simple assessment here, too.

The first session with the child is mainly for us to get to know each other and for the client to see if they would like to commit to treatment. We then set up a plan for treatment with the parents.

Every session is 40 minutes long for under-12s and 50 minutes long for over-12s.
