About me and my therapy practice

Becoming your true self and learning how to let go of the things that shaped or were done to you, and your patterns of relating which no longer serve you, can be challenging, messy and painful.

But letting go of redundant behaviours and thoughts can also be rewarding and offers opportunity for growth. It is empowering and transformative and all that is required is for you to want this change to happen, and be fully engaged in the collaborative counselling process with myself.

By looking here for a counsellor, you are taking responsibility for your life moving forward and bravely enabling change. It's ok to ask for professional help. Admitting that you can't cope, need things to change or have a problem is a sign of strength and determination. The next step is to find a counsellor who resonates for you.

Perhaps you are looking for a meaning in the world and a point to your existence or how to connect in relationships with others. Perhaps life transitions have shaken up everything you knew; perhaps your past holds you prisoner in your future. Or anxiety, depression and panic attacks stop your life.

Our counselling relationship will provide a safe space for you to tackle your problems more effectively, build self awareness, challenge your perspective, and learn to cope or allow you to find meaning through acceptance. I will also ensure you are seen, heard and feel accompanied when you can feel most alone; when it seems like no one else understands, you feel overloaded or isolated.

My approach to our counselling relationship is to be present, genuine and supportive of you and the personal growth journey you are about to undertake. We will work together to enable you to feel more equipped to deal with life’s challenges so that you can live in a more fulfilling way.

I believe that it will be in the quality of our honest and trusting therapeutic relationship, which will offer you support and chance for contemplation that you are able to become the person you hope to become.

Practice description

I am an accredited, humanistic EMDR counsellor offering a genuine and open approach to supporting your discovery of your inner resources and resilience. It is the quality of our therapeutic relationship which will create the supportive space to enable you to move towards what you need and want in your life.

My training is Integrative which means that I am familiar with a wide range of psychotherapeutic theories so I am able to draw on different approaches to counselling, as and when they are most beneficial to you at different stages in your therapy and in our relationship.

My person-centred and Humanistic counselling training, means I genuinely believe you hold the answers to what you need to find your potential in your life and grow towards what you need. Therefore I will meet you genuinely and openly as human being to human being in a real, approachable and supportive relationship.

My primary focus is you and your unique strength and resilience; in my experience I know that some part of you will know how to use the space best for your own growth and healing. I believe you are the professional and expert of your life and issues and not the other way around.

I have been a counsellor with several organisations in Bristol including the Swan Project, the charity Mind and the counselling services at Bristol University as well as having my own private practice.

My strengths are particularly working with compassion focused therapy (CFT), gestalt, transactional analysis, mindfulness and solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), but these are far from exclusive approaches and the most important aspect for me is the quality of our counselling relationship. I also offer concessionary rate EMDR therapy for trauma

I am a member of BACP and abide by its Code of Ethics (2016). I attend regular supervision with a qualified supervisor to ensure my counselling work is both effective and ethical. I also undergo training and development in various areas in order to hone my counselling skills.

My first session

I offer a free 30 minute introductory initial consultation, either on phone, or on-line by zoom or in person in my tranquil therapy rooms.

This is for us both to explore how we feel working together; for me to give you a chance to see how I work and respond to you, and to answer any questions you may have. I will also be trying to gauge my suitability to your requirements or whether you may require more specific or different kinds of therapeutic support.

You also may want to feel around if you feel comfortable, safe and can build a safe counselling relationship with me. We will both make the decision as to whether to work together.

The first two sessions will involve an informal assessment, with me finding out why you have decided to come to counselling; what your hopes, expectations are for our counselling sessions together

Additionally we will go through our working contract together, which asks for at least 6 sessions commitment and to attend at the same day and time and what to do about missing sessions and the importance of being punctual

If you are choosing EMDR therapy, the first sessions will be the assessment and history taking to confirm EMDR's suitability for yourself. We would also spend time ensuring you have appropriate containing and grounding resources to draw upon. We also discuss your expectations for the therapy, any possible limitations and the way the therapy may impact you before we start the different EMDR stages

I would introduce you to basic theory of EMDR and you could explore any questions or concerns you may have. Again, our counselling relationship is essential for you to feel secure, heard, your needs met, and held in the therapy process. The early sessions are important for establishing that

So if you feel you'd like to bring clarity to your situation, change or accept your feelings about yourself and your life, or would just like to cope and feel more content, or be free of past intrusive memories contact me for a free initial consultation

My working hours 9.00am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday. Please contact me for availability as it can change weekly. I accept clients with variable shift patterns such as key workers.

I work online or in person in Frenchay in Bristol, BS16 either in my tranquil therapy room or on "walk and talk" ecotherapy sessions in nature.

You might find it challenging to be indoors in the traditional counselling setting, so therefore I offer the opportunity to meet and walk in woods and commons, in the fresh air and in nature in different weather and changing seasons. This can be liberating, moving and a refreshing way of counselling and building the counselling relationship together.

It is a mindfulness based therapy which offers the opportunity to ponder, ruminate and be fully present in the body, mind and indeed soul. It can engage with the breath, be more relaxing and release physical tension. It is a form of therapy linked with the sense of freedom, connection and empowerment we have outdoors and being part of the natural world.

I also offer EMDR therapy for 90 minutes at £75 and one hour for £55 at my therapy room in BS16 1JT.

EMDR is an evidence based psychotherapy, excellent for Trauma such as PTSD or Child Sexual Abuse or trauma such as a one off event like a car accident, or persistent childhood developmental trauma such as attachment issues, or persistent depression or feelings of not being good enough, lovable or belonging.

EMDR therapy allows you to not feel "stuck" in the emotions, thoughts or feelings of the past if present stimuli "triggers" them. By using bi-lateral stimulation such as eye movements, tapping or sounds, the traumatic memories can be focused upon and then re-processed and stored adaptively away in your memory. The past painful memories then don't impact the present as their is a reduction in the vividness and emotions associated with the trauma memories.

EMDR therapy has longevity in its positive outcomes as we also look at present and future triggers.

About me and my therapy practice

By looking here for a counsellor, you are taking responsibility for your life moving forward and bravely enabling change. It's ok to ask for professional help. Admitting that you can't cope, need things to change or have a problem is a sign of strength and determination.

Becoming your true self and learning how to let go of your traumatic memories or the things that shaped or were done to you, and your patterns of relating which no longer serve you, could feel to be challenging, messy and painful.

But letting go of redundant behaviours, traumas and thoughts can also be rewarding and offers opportunity for growth. It is empowering, transformative and offers long lasting change.

Our counselling relationship will provide a safe space for you to tackle your problems more effectively, build self awareness, challenge your perspective, and learn to cope better.

I utilise Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as an evidence based and highly successful psychotherapy treatment. It will help you to process and recover from traumatic past experiences that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing in the present.

In my therapy practice I draw on EMDR to help you re-process the negative emotions, beliefs, images and body sensations associated with your traumatic memories that seem to be "stuck" or leave you feeling stuck in past sensations brought into the present. With EMDR therapy, I will be able to support you with a wide range of mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, addictions, behavioural difficulties, relationship issues.

I use EMDR in my therapy practice as it is a way of kickstarting your natural healing and recovery process after your trauma. As your therapist I will be walking alongside you as you heal from the inside.

With EMDR, the change in perspective comes from within and the transformative changes can be remarkable in how you will feel; from feelings of terror or shame to calmness and empowerment.

Practice description

I am an accredited, humanistic EMDR counsellor offering a genuine, supportive and curious approach to supporting your discovery of your inner resources and resilience. As a person-centred counsellor, I also believe it is the quality of our therapeutic relationship which will create the supportive space to enable you to move towards what you need and introduce the change you want in your life.

My training is Integrative which means that I am familiar with a wide range of psychotherapeutic theories so I am able to draw on different approaches to counselling, as and when they are most beneficial to you.

My primary focus is you and your unique strength and resilience; in my experience I know that some part of you will know how to use the space best for your own growth and healing. I believe you are the professional and expert of your life and issues and not the other way around.

I encourage the EMDR approach where I feel it to be useful as it tackles such a wide range of presenting issues and ensured longevity in success of symptoms not returning.

I have been a counsellor with several organisations in Bristol including the Swan Project, the charity Mind and the counselling services at Bristol University as well as having my own established private practice.

My strengths are particularly working with compassion focused therapy (CFT), gestalt, transactional analysis, mindfulness and solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), but these are far from exclusive approaches and the most important aspect for me is the quality of our counselling relationship. I also utilise EMDR therapy for trauma and Trauma, for more information please see my website or message me for questions about whether it would be suitable for you.

I am a member of BACP and abide by its Code of Ethics (2016). I attend regular supervision to ensure my counselling work is both effective and ethical. I also undergo training and development in various areas in order to hone my counselling skills.

My first session

I offer a free 30 minute introductory initial consultation, either on phone, or on-line by zoom or in person in my tranquil therapy room.

This is for us both to explore how we feel working together; for me to give you a chance to see how I work and respond to you, and to answer any questions you may have. I will also be trying to gauge my suitability to your requirements or whether you may require more specific or different kinds of therapeutic support.

You also may want to listen to your intuition to see if you feel comfortable and can build a safe counselling relationship with me. We will both decide whether we want to work together.

If you are contacting me for EMDR therapy, the first sessions will be the assessment and history taking to confirm EMDR's suitability for yourself. We would also spend time ensuring you have appropriate containing and grounding resources to draw upon. We also discuss your expectations for the therapy, any possible limitations and the way the therapy may impact you before we start the different EMDR stages.

I would introduce you to basic theory of EMDR and you could explore any questions or concerns you may have. Again, our counselling relationship is essential for you to feel secure, heard, your needs met, and held in the therapy process. The early sessions are important for establishing that.

We would go through procedural aspects of EMDR such as how it involves using bi lateral movements like side to side eye movements, tapping or alternating sounds in each ear combined with talk therapy in a specific and structured format.

Sometimes clients only need around six sessions of EMDR therapy for it to make a dramatic difference, although some clients with more complex issues will require more.

So if you feel you'd like to bring clarity to your situation, change or accept your feelings about yourself and your life, or would just like to cope and feel more content, or be free of past intrusive memories contact me for a free initial consultation.

About me and my therapy practice

Working ONLINE or in person in Bristol.

I believe that it will be in the quality of our honest and trusting therapeutic relationship, which will offer you support and chance for contemplation that you are able to become the person you hope to become

Practice description

I am a qualified, humanistic counsellor offering a genuine and open approach to supporting your discovery of your inner resources and resilience.

I am also a member of BACP and abide by its Code of Ethics (2016). I attend regular supervision with an accredited and qualified supervisor to ensure my counselling work is both effective and ethical. I also undergo ongoing training and development in various areas in order to hone my counselling skills.

My first session

I offer a free 30 minute introductory initial consultation online or by phone.

The first two sessions will involve an informal assessment, with me finding out why you have decided to come to counselling; what your hopes, expectations are for our counselling sessions together.

Additionally we will go through our working contract together, which asks for at least 6 sessions commitment and to attend at the same day and time and what to do about missing sessions and the importance of being punctual.

So if you feel you'd like to bring clarity to your situation, change or accept your feelings about yourself and your life, or would just like to cope and feel more content, contact me for a free initial consultation.
